Yes I cut the bottom out of my AMS

Got tired of taking it apart (twice was enough) so I cut the bottom out and I am going to do it to the other one too. Just the frustration of disconnecting and reconnecting the cables alone makes the effort worth it.

The design team should have made a service panel on the bottom to resolve broken bits of filament. Filament gets brittle from being run in and out of the AMS. Now I pull it out and test it before I run it but breaks still happen.

Waiting for the plastic epoxy to cure, then drill the twist latches and it’s done. Added clear PTFE tubing while I was at it.

I would hope so because my other AMS just did the same thing just now. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Not to mention as soon as a print it done on my X1C it loses connection every time now since the recent studio update.
I am not putting up with this anymore. I just ordered an X2D (in transit) with AMS2 but I am trying to send it back. Lost confidence in Bambu after more and more connection issues. AGAIN!

My Prusa’s stay connected no problems.

At least the next will go faster. I just have to reprint the parts in one go instead of as I create them on the first one. I really didn’t want to spend the time on this… ■■■■ happens.

I lol’ed, looks awesome. Out of curiousity whats the filament thats causing you such common breakage issues?

Or maybe just try out the X2D for a few weeks and sell it if you do not like it.

Idk. Studio updates do some weird things sometimes. I prefer to only update when a feature is fixed. Let others figure out the issues first. Connection issues are a odd thing to troubleshoot, but I would just downgrade the version.

First one yesterday was Voxel. Today is Esun. It think its from being run in and out + age. I have some Prusa galaxy PLA that worked great the other day but I did remove about ten turns that where brittle in random places. It is a bit old but the quality of the prints with all 3 has been great.

All firmware is up to date, Reboot everything doesn’t always work unless I just got the reboot order wrong?

I mean not having the firmware up to date.

If it worked on the previous version, downgrade to the version in which it worked.

In terms of the filament breaking, you might have more of an issue with the filament you are using. Admittedly, cleaning out those jams is a pain in the â– â– â–  on the AMS 1, but I have only had to do that a handful of times over about 18k hours on the AMS1.

I crack myself up when I am doing these kind of mods. I have big hammer hands so getting at those connectors is ridiculous…

I even removed the hub and pointed it out the back to the left side to get rid of the loop friction and shorten my runs… The AMS’ motors struggle a lot less now.

I fired off a support ticket for a refund and return. If it doesn’t get their attention, I know what will. I’m retried, got nothing better to do and I am crotchety. :enraged_face:

It ain’t pretty but it works. Next I break out the AMS capable TPU and design slightly taller feet for it. I don’t have to ever look under again hopefully.

My theory is the filament gears might have something to do with the brittleness of the filament. The problem “seems” to happen on filament that has been fed in and out maybe even multiple times. Get rid of that and the rest seems fine.

Oh and the jam wasn’t the second AMS’ fault. Derp! :backhand_index_pointing_left:

I’m still giving the same treatment though.

Not so sure it’s the printers fault entirely. It shows the job is done and every thing is okay. Slicer says the printer busy, and soon after shows as being offline.

It had nothing to do with the filament being in and out of AMS or age. The filament was too wet. The brittleness and the breaks were due to the moisture in the filament. Even for me who have never dried PLA so far, I wouldn’t have used the filament without drying first.

Someone has to speak for the AMS that can’t speak for itself. AMS is not to blame here. It is innocent and doesn’t deserved to have its bottom cut out :slight_smile:

You could be right and make some good points.

Again, I wasted a bunch of filament on a few rolls and found that where they have been through the gears, they were all more brittle.

Looking at the design changes in the AMS2 I would suggest complaints drove them to make clearing the tubes easier for a reason. :upside_down_face:

If mine does it again (and it likely will) the bottom pops off easy, problem diagnosed and cleared relatively easy. Onto cutting my second AMS tomorrow.

I was one of those who had asked for an improved AMS. AMS 2 Pro has a more powerful motor and ceramic filament inlet, and made it easier to get to the tubes. However, I would have loved to see a redesign to reduce the number of joints the filament has to go through and make the feeding path shorter and less winding.

Having say that, wet and brittle filament will keep breaking inside the AMS no matter how good the AMS is. Funny I said that because I have never dried PLA filaments but before use I do check to make sure they are not so wet that they become brittle.

It’s your AMS, cut away :slight_smile: . But I hope you don’t need to pull the tubes routinely in the first place.

Is that a mac? it does that on mac when the mac wakes from sleep. connection is solid on windows.

They should have, but the AMS was the first of its kind when the only alternatives were the Palette, and the MMU (multi meme unit), and back then, they didn’t know what we know now.

On the AMS2 they fixed this problem.
