I just ran a print on my H2C and as usual, marveled at the way the machine dances on the rubber feet. Unfortunately, a couple hours into the print I heard a loud noise and when I checked the printer, the AMS was hanging off the back by the teflon tube, with all the spools of filament on the floor.
I haven’t done a full assessment yet, but I did see that the little plastic latch levers that hold the cover closed are broken.
If you have an AMS, don’t stand it on top of the printer!
That’s mental. Clocked up over 8000 hours across various H series printers now and not had a single worry with this. I wonder if its infill related? I don’t use gyroid for that reason with how much it moves lol What infill were you using?
I never use gyroid- too slow and pointless. I typically use triangle infill, as I was for the print that was running.
I’m going to find or build a suitable rack for this thing. I want to be able to print TPU and that will require putting a spool over the open top of the printer, so I’ll have to figure out how to do that. Ill probably make something out of t-slot aluminum.
Is your printer level? I also have many thousands of hours on H series printers and haven’t had an AMS even close to falling off the top of them. I find the rubber feet grip the glass top really well.
Not to doubt you, but it sounds like something else is at play here to cause it to wobble off. I haven’t heard of a single case where this has happened.
If y.ou run the printer at normal speed you should be fine as soon as you run it at higher print speeds it will bounce around aggressively and throw the AMS units off the top of the prinhter
I love Item Profiles. Almost nothing you can’t build with them. This Case makes my H2C absolutely silent and free from air particals. Absolutely no shaking outside
My X2D shakes more than I’d like it to, especially during the macro actions that are preprogrammed with silly unalterable 20k accel. I’ve caught it slightly sliding around the top glass but maybe I’ll restrain it…
Oh FFS. The AMS has been sitting on the printer since I unpacked it about 8 months ago. Unless they put grease or dust on the feet in the factory, there’s no grease or dust there.
Reality doesn’t care about what you fantasize about or believe. The shaking of the printer is what threw the AMS off the top.
Uh…just a question, I see a little vent louver on the left side of the enclosure, what else do you have ensuring there’s enough airflow to keep the air volume inside your enclosure at the same temperature as the room it’s in?
I’m sorry that this is getting frustrating for you.
Please understand, what happened to you is shocking, and should never happen under normal circumstances. A lot of people put their AMS units on top of their printers, so if there’s a potential for this to happen, that’s a big concern.
I have a couple questions as well, if you don’t mind.
How solid is the table the printer is on? Any flex or wobble when the printer is running? You could put a glass of water on top of the printer and observe it’s movement during the print.
When you first set up the printer when new, it does resonance calibration - shakes itself at different frequencies and then tunes it’s motor frequencies to cancel out resonance during prints. Did you, by chance, do this setup either on a different table, or with the table in a different location, or with the AMS unit not on the printer?
I would suggest in any case, re-run the machine calibration from the printer settings menu. The glass of water test before and after calibration may reveal different performance before and after.
I’d really like to get to the bottom of this one.
(That reminds me, I just added another AMS HT on top of my H2C, gotta go re-run machine calibration now )
I’m running a P2S here, but can relate to the gyrations these things go through with certain parts of the printing.
When I got my second AMS2 Pro I printed out a stand I like for two, or more, stacked AMS’s. That did two things for me, Stacked my AMS beside my printer, and freed up the top of my printer for access.
Yeah, these things can get to violently dancing. Like a washing machine on spin cycle.
