Z axis offset?

I’m trying to do some experiments with multi-color without having an AMS.
On an old Prusa MK3 I remember I could do manual filament changes (useful for when we’re printing a ~10 layer object).

On bambu that doesn’t seem possible, but I saw some people reporting success printing around up to 3x0.20mm layers; so I’d like to do something like (0.20mm layers):

  1. Print 7 black layers
  2. Keep bed warm, change filament and print 3 yellow layers on top of the 7 black layers (disabling calibration)
  3. Repeat, printing 3 red layers
  4. Finally, “print around” the red/yellow using the black layer again

This seems (from reports) to work fine if you skip step 1 (e.g. always start printing on the bed); but I’d like to have a “black base”.

I guess I just need have my yellow/red layers on the bed, but add a 1.4mm Z offset. I tried doing this changing G29.1 Z1.40, but nothing changed.

Any other ideas?

I am not sure I understand exactly what you want to do. A screenshot of what you are trying to print would help. I have a P1S (no AMS) and print embedded text, etc. doing similar to what you mentioned.

I print ‘face down’ with the “base” color being first. It will print the first layer of the base color with an outline of the other (embedded) color, then it will go to the prime tower. I manually pause when it moves to the prime tower and perform a manual filament swap. I resume the print and it will print the first and second layer of the embeded color. Again it will go to the prime tower and I pause and switch back to the base color. I resume print and it prints layer #2 of the base color and continues the rest of the print. I only use two layers of the embeded color to reduce filament changes. Also, I have to be there to manually pause the print when it goes to the prime tower.

I do not edit the Z offset.

oh, that sounds like a good way to do that! I thought the A1 did color change ejecting filament and forgot I could enable the prime tower… will give it a try, thanks!
