I plan on doing some longer prints with ABS and ordered a 0.6 nozzle to speed things up a bit. But I did notice that I can’t select a 0.12 or lower layer height anymore. Technically this would be possible - so why are these not an option anymore ?
And has anybody here done it anyway and might bee willing to share his profile for that ?
I think those are configured by Bambu Lab. I changed nozzles a while back really just to test the bigger nozzle and some of the available settings using a .4 nozzle were removed on the larger diameter nozzle.
Scroll down this page a little and there is some good information about nozzle sizes. Nozzle Sizes and how size impacts print.
Squeezing out a very thin layer makes it difficult to lay down a well-shaped, flattened-oval line of filament. A 0.15mm layer is the usually recommended minimum for a 0.6 nozzle (25% of nozzle width), but you can change the layer height down to 0.12 mm if you wish, without modifying the printer preset. You risk increased clogging, lose much of the speed advantage over a smaller nozzle, and may need to adjust other parameters to get a good print.
OK, Thank you, I read a lot in the last days and people seem to have used the 0.6 NZ with up to 0.1layers …
I do understand that Bambu has done some research to get these values/presets - but they also wan’t to keep the printer running successfully. I will stick with the 0.16 for now and maybe do some testing later this year
And ensure, that the 0.6 nozzle really speed up your print. I am currently using the 0.6 nozzle a lot, but experience in total (of course depending on the model) only a small speed increase (~10%), by using a lot of more material and loosing quality (based on your idea of the missing low layer height).
In general I will use the bigger nozzles only for filament which requires it (e.g. wood with >20% wood in it).
