0.2 Nozzle can this be used on X1C Carbon with PLA & PLA+

Hi all, I am having problems with a print of a logo where some of the logo is not being printed. I have been using a 0.4 hardened steel nozzle but have been advised in the Facebook forums to try a 0.2 nozzle. I can only find a 0.2 nozzle in stainless steel, can this be used with PLA and PLA+ without any issue? Any specific settings changes required or just go with the stock settings? Thanks a lot for the help.

Original on bottom, missing lines on top image.

A 0.2 mm stainless steel nozzle assembly will work just fine for PLA and PLA+, as long as there is no abrasive additives (like glow-in-the-dark or Carbon/glass fibre). You might have to update your Printer settings to get access to the 0.2mm profile (see images below).

Select/add your new nozzle size and it should show up in your settings!

I haven’t tried printing with different nozzles in this machine yet but if they are just as well-tuned as the 0.4mm ones stock settings should be totally fine.

And if you’re still missing lines on your print you could try to reduce the “Outer Wall” Line width setting a bit and see if that gives better results. You can even go thinner than nozzle size but it can affect quality a bit.

further investigation with the slicer would seem to indicate that only a 0.2 nozzle will help, Cheers Luuckmaster :+1:

I think you can try “Strength/Walls/Detect Thin Walls” to get smaller details to show up. It often causes other issues, but it’s worth looking at.

Cheers, I am trying a 0.2 nozzle as nothing else seemed to help!!

what settings do you use?
do you use this profile as well?

not sure what you mean?? I used the standard Bambu Settings for a 0.2 nozzle.

Update: I have now fitted a 0.2 nozzle and this seems to have cured the logo issues but now having problems with the overhang!! I have been using supports ( normal and tree ) and the same thing seems to happen.

As you can see the right indent does not form at all ( this would be at the 12o’clock position for the print.

Un the 2nd photo the back face was oriented to be at 12o’clock and left a very rough surface.
You can also just make out in the 2nd photo that both indents printed perfectly.!!!
Any thoughts or suggestions please??

I’ve had great results (altho on a 0.4mm nozzle) by changing the interface settings:

  • 3 layers thick
  • concentric pattern
  • 0mm distance (solid layers)

It’s also worth looking at the “support bridges” setting. While it can be very useful for shallow holes it can also remove parts of the floating surfaces. Try comparing it in the slicer and see what works best.

Yep, trying the 3 layer interface and concentric pattern using Sunlu PLA now so keeping fingers crossed.
Not sure what you mean by 0mm distance part?
Cheers

I get the confusion. I didn’t get the wording quite right. Didn’t have the slicer in front of me at the time of writing. I meant the “top interface spacing” setting under advanced support settings.

it should look something like this:

For the best surface finish you might want to take a look at dedicated support materials, bambu has one for PLA. It’s sold-out and hard to get a.t.m. unfortunately (haven’t tried it myself but apparently it works well).

Hi mate, thanks for the info, I have actually got some support material on order ( not Bambu as out of stock as you mentioned ) so will try that once it is here!!
