01.04 Firmware is Bad

Is anyone else having trouble with their printer on 01.04 firmware? My A1 is haunted, it is trying to print trees mid air. Whole printing method in general is way different than it used to be.

I don’t this is a firmware issue

You can roll the firmware back to a previous version via the Handy app.

Well I rolled back the firmware and it is still acting weird. Now it tries to clean its nozzle off the build plate lol. This is going to take a while to figure out.

Re calibrating might help , i believe its suggested after firmware updates

With that said ive noticed a lot of snatching/grinding type movements from my A1 Mini
especially while printing small round objects (standing) which appears to be a deliberate way to cause objects to fail , wouldnt mind so much but the objects printed the first time without those kind of issues

Agreed. A recalibration and factory reset is a good policy to follow after a firmware update. It’s seems to cure the “odd” problems.

I also noticed this from the system

Bambu suggested tramming the bed but I am doing the factory reset and recalibrate first.

I also have weird issues with the newest firmware. At least I hope it is the firmware, but something has been off with my A1 recently.

I reversed my firmware to an older version and 95% of my issues were solved. My print head still does something weird when it cleans but it isn’t consistent enough for me to diagnose the problem. (It tries to scrub the nozzle in the gap at the back of the build plate).

Yeah, same â– â– â– â–  happening to me

I have updated my firmware, made a full recalibration (the 15 or so minutes) and it works great.
So maybe something went wrong when updating or maybe there is some other issue with your machine. Anyhow, I hope it will work out for you.

I had the firmware load corrupted or something the first time I loaded 1.04 on my A1. The printer totally stopped doing auto bed leveling and failed a couple prints because the first layer was too high. I rolled back to 1.03 and it was fixed. Re-flashed 1.04 and then it was back to normal, it’s been fine since.

From now on I think I’ll do firmware via sd card since that was one of the features of 1.04.

From personal experience I would suggest checking to see if the corners of the plate or elsewhere have a foreign object hiding beneath the plate.
I had this issue and it affected to auto level process, creating this same issue.

Could be possible. It was a while ago now so maybe I managed to clear an object the exact same time I rolled back firmware. Never happened any other times though before or since.

Edit: from what I remember I don’t think I had the bed plate off from 1.04 > 1.03 roll back because I wasn’t letting it start prints if it didn’t do bed leveling.

TBH it only happened the once. I found a piece of something or other under the front RH corner. It had completed an auto level and took that extra height as plate level. It was only a tiny amount but a lot bigger than .4mm… Which was the issue.

I am not having any trouble. I got my A1 about a month ago and up dated the firmware right away after making a couple of prints with the firmware it came installed with. Have had zero problems with the 1.04 firmware.

Hi, had problems after the update too. Prints i have printed a few times before the update suddenly had problems, rough surfaces, stringing and globbing up the nozzle, not adhering to the plate.
Nothing else had changed. Same filaments, build plate, hotend, nozzle and files. I lost about 5 prints, checked settings, reset A1, full calibration runs.
Couldn’t identify anything, so i down graded to version 1.03.01.02, ran a couple of prints again and all is fine again.
Any suggestions on what 1.04 has changed in the background that may be affecting settings that we cant see.
Something definitely amiss with 1.04 for me.

An Update.
Reading across the web about 1.04 i thought id give it another go, but more methodically this time.

  1. removed build plate and nozzle.
  2. Ensured everything was clean.
  3. Another New Nozzle 0.4
  4. New PEI textured build plate.
  5. Reset using Factory reset.
  6. Reconnected to wifi
  7. Full recalibration run.
  8. Switched off, waited 10 miniutes
  9. Switched on, agreed to upgrade to 1.04
  10. Loaded Bambu PLA Basic Blue filament
  11. Full recalibration run.
  12. Ran original 3dBenchy Creative file from SD card.
  13. Took 9 mins for A1 to go through pre-print prep
  14. Printing started at 9 mins, ran to end 21 mins
  15. Final result LOOKS GREAT TO ME

Why this now worked is beyond me, but it is also back to printing at speed again, it had slowed down for no apparent reason.

So I’ve got another print on, that worked initially pre update, then failled after update, ad now printing, so far so good, 30 mins into a 1hr 30min print.

Will update later on the outcome.

I kinda wonder if there is an issue with over the air firmware update… I know in other areas (r/c vehicles) they tend to discourage firmware update via bluetooth and such.

Either that or there was an undocumented change to the 1.04 firmware because for me, it was bad the first time, fine the second time.
