1 week old P1s freezes mid-print, black screen, fans going to max

Dear Bambu Family,

I’ve had my P1s for about a week, and 2nd print in (PLA, ~@45 mins mark) I’ve had a weird print freeze with fans going to max and I literally can not do anything besides . During the print freeze the printer’s LCD panel turns off and both the mobile (Bambu Handy) and desk (Bambu Studio) top app shows that the printer is in the status of ‘Failed to connect to the printer’.

I’ve tried both when the glass door is opened and closed.

  • 2nd print - PLA - printer door closed - ~45 mins into print it stops then starts again after a while - it then starts and finishes the print.
  • 3rd print - PLA - printer door closed - ~45 mins into print it stops then starts again after a few minutes - after another few mins in then stops and don’t operate for literally an hour again where I had to turn off the machine manually - the printer was still the same after I turned it back on but just with no loud fan going on max - Left it till the day after where it was all good again.
  • 4th print - PLA - printer door open - ~120 mins into print it stops then starts again after a few minutes - after another few mins in then stops and don’t operate for literally for an hour where I had to turn off the machine manually.

It’s wasting heaps of material as well as creating the artifact when it stops on one spot (As you can see from the photo, the PLA has covered my whole nozzle when it stopped). I don’t think a p1s printer should behave like this right?

Thank you guys in advance!

Edit 1:
After 2 hours and 13 minutes the printer has gone back up. Printer is back online and the LCD is back on. Though after being all normal for roughly 10 mins it’s unresponsive again.

Hi,

Sorry to read that.
Try a generic troubleshooting procedure if you don’t already:

  1. Update firmware if a new version exists;
  2. Hard reset, i.e. shut down, remove the power cord and “wait a couple of minutes” before plugging it again.
  3. Recalibrate the printer.

If the issue persists, please confirm if the 2nd, 3rd and 4th prints are for the same file. If so, test the printer with a different file.

Hi I have literally just had this same problem. Seems strange that they have happened so close between one another when I can’t find this issue reported anywhere else. Must be a firmware problem. I’ve had mine for almost a year and haven’t had this issue before. How has it been after the advice given? My screen would only come back on after I disconnected the wire connected and plugged it back in. I am running the latest firmware also FYI.

Have you checked if there might be any firmware updates available for your printer? Sometimes updating firmware can resolve unexpected behavior like this. Also, ensuring good ventilation and checking for any loose connections might help stabilize the printing process.

So after a week of testing I’ve finally got it to work consistently.

It seems to be the SD card provided by Bambu that was causing the problem. After changing it the problem literally stopped.

I have been watching unboxing videos and one of he suggestions was to get a high end micro SD from San disk as cheap insurance. For the 10 bucks I didnt think twice and ordered it. Reading this confirms that this was a good idea.

Replace SD card, I had similar issue.

I am glad the issue was solved with a simple swift of the SD card.
Thanks for sharing; up until now, I have never considered the SD card as a problem maker.

I had this same issue and contacted support, who said it was an issue with a license expiring their end that they’ve fixed… I’ve not experienced it again since.
