.2mm nozzle or entire hot end assembly?

I’m curious as a noob I have never switched out a nozzle. would like to give the .2 a try. What is the better option? I’m strictly talking about the two options on the BL website. One is just a nozzle the other is the nozzle and entire hot end.

I’m looking for greater detail in my prints. I know I can file with settings etc… But I’d like to see what the .2 can do for me.

Entire hot end is a much easier swap. Only takes a few minutes, if that.

Entire assembly is how I do it also. Please be very careful when disconnection the electrical plugs. They are surface mount parts and the bind to the circuit board isn’t the strongest. There is a risk that the socket will come off the board. Take your time and check to see it there is a latching mechanism. There probably isn’t but there seem to have been on the fly changes.
This isn’t meant to scare you out of changing nozzles, just trying to make you aware that you can’t just yank on the wires.

Appreciate the heads up.

Honestly the complete hotend assembly is indeed easier to change as a whole and I have a couple of spares just in case, but changing the nozzle alone and swapping the thermistor and fan from the other assy isn’t a big deal and is cheaper especially the stainless nozzles (they are limited to what you can put through them though)

Either way I’ve got an assortment of hardened and stainless nozzles of different sizes but am still just using the hardened steel .4mm which I’ve changed twice now because even though they are hardened that glow in the dark filament is more abrasive than carbon fiber filament I swear lol

Totally. For me, it’s just much easier to swap the entire assembly to get the printer running again and then tinker with clearing/cleaning/replacing the nozzle off the printer.

I also have a couple of whole hotend assemblies. I must admit I am just too lazy to even care about swapping just the nozzle. I would at least get a full hotend for each nozzle size, plus maybe one extra for the 0.4 nozzle (the one is use by far the most)

What if the complete hotend is out of stock (at least I can’t select the 0.2 when buying a new X1C): can I just buy another 0.4 and replace it with the separate 0.2 to create a new complete hot end? Or are there specific components in a 0.4 vs 0.2 complet hotend that are not interchangeable?
The end goal is a 0.2mm complete hotend next to the standard 0.4

The fan, heater, and thermistor are the same for both nozzles so that is a possibility.

The X1C printer cannot be ordered with a 0.2 nozzle - 0.4 is the only nozzle installed in a new printer. You should be able to order an additional 0.2 hotend as an accessory or repair part. Link to the Global store, change to your country.

I’ve found a simple tool like this is useful to pull the plugs from the board without damaging the wires, plug or board.

Ah, perfect! The 0.2 is intended as an addition, but currently out of stock (back in stock @ dec 02).
Great tip for the tool, thanks! Better than pliers, I imagine.

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply!

Agree with all above- The full hotend is the way to go.

Definitely use caution with the connectors- I had to change my board out due to a messed up tiny plug.
