Does plastic really smell that much? If so, principally what kinds? Vinyl, perhaps? Vinyl does have a kind of distinctive smell that’s maybe similar. Add to that all kinds of glues, adhesives, sealants, paints, solvents, lubricants, foams, insulation, hot snot, fluxes, conformal coatings, cushioning, fabrics, rubber hoses, and all that as a kind of witches brew.
" The classic new-car smell is a byproduct of a chemical process known as off-gassing—a term that doesn’t sound particularly appealing. The root cause is attributable to the many plastics and adhesives used in a modern car’s interior. Goldworm said these combined materials generally emit a “gasoline-like” smell, for a relatively short period of time. That may not sound enticing, but at low levels, it still gives off that shiny scent that Goldworm was talking about."

You can buy a can of strawberry scent that is made with zero strawberries
This may be a longshot, but I wonder if people were getting high off that new car smell. Perhaps another reason to find that smell attractive, maybe without even realizing why. Certainly a lot of solvents can have that effect on people. Like those chicks in Fast Times at Ridgemont High who would inhale the solvent off the fresh mimeographs when they were distributed in class. That stuff did kinda smell like new car smell.
Lol. All the car leasers are actually just addicts
You all convinced me. I have designed and installed a full ventilation system for my enclosed P1P.
I have changed my profiles to ventilate all of my printing now.
I had wanted to upgrade to print with ABS and this gave me the extra push that I needed.
I just wanted to say “Thank you!”
