3D printing waste

Hello everyone.
I am an individual and I have been printing for myself only, for a little over a month. I am really surprised by the amount of waste that 3D printing produces. I dare not imagine on a country or world scale the tons of plastic lost in our waste!!
Is there no way to recycle all this??

It looks interesting, but unfortunately they don’t ship to my country : Switzerland

You could launch your own recycling center for 3d printing leftovers, receiving this stuff from all over Switzerland and you might even get rich with that… perhaps even getting financial support from the cantonal authorities …

Could be a great idea if I was 30 years younger

Age ain’t a decisive factor. You could launch it anyway and leave it a blooming business as legacy to your family…

abstractionism… he should go into abstract art and launch a 3D melting art gallery … if people are ready to spend that amount of money on sn AI generated abstract ā€œartā€, they’d definitely buy his.

There was a contest a while ago related to uses for waste material.

These were my entries.

So basically, the short answer is NO.

There are no simple solutions to this…

Having worked as an engineer at Philips consumer electronics in the past I can tell you that the amount of plastic you throw away is miniscule compared to the waste these type of factories have…

So don’t worry too much.

unless gets sold on ebay, Aliexpress Amazon, and other places… then it’s deemed as a profitable business and such concerns about the waste aren’t worth any further consideration anymore .

Malc, if he looks at them is because he’s hooked by the beauty, design, cleverness, ingenuity… and loss of filament your makes entail. Congrats Malc, your first ā€œpadawanā€ in a generation. Good job!:+1:

Agreed.

One thing i swore myself when i got my first Printer in 2018 is to not print dust collectors or just stupid random things that’ll entertain me for 5 minutes and then be thrown away in a few years.

So far i have succeeded with it.

Same thought here, but more (let’s say) ancient /raw manner.

you are unfortunately right, when I have 5 minutes, I will call Jeff Bezos to find out if he wants to do business with 3D printing waste

Yeah, all good and well, and your idea ain’t bad (totally)… the bad news is that Bezos ain’t the Amazon head honcho anymore … so you need to tailor yourself another approach…and another target CEO.

just see that : https://www.preciousplastic.com/
