4:3 & 3:4 Cover images not displayed correctly on Bambu Handy

Hey @Tanklet I tried using the new suggested 3:4 aspect ratio images on Bambu Handy, but it’s still displaying a 1:1 image there, so both the 4:3 and 3:4 appear letterboxed or pillar-boxed. It looks like Bambu Handy uses a 1:1 ratio for the cover image, so I tried using that and it appears correct. Since 1:1 is closer to the 4:3 aspect ratio, i’d suggest that you encourage people to use a 1:1 aspect ratio there rather than 4:3 or 3:4 unless the app is going to change.

I appreciate the ability to upload both so we can have things look great on both web and mobile, but it would make everyone’s life easier if bambu handy just displayed the 4:3 ratio image correctly so we only had to make one image

How about square 1:1 ratio for both the web and the Handy app?

For a platform like MW that is on both the web and an app, wouldn’t it be easier to use one aspect ratio that fits well on both? Make the change now before millions of models are loaded.

Edited to add:
Changing to the 1:1 ratio can also have the following benefits: 1) MW will look more differently from Printables which uses the 4:3 ratio; 2) Provide some white space on the left and right sides of the page for the eyes to rest on. Currently with the 4:3 ratio, the 5 images per row takes up all the space on the page giving the website a busy crowded feel.

Artwork for 330 existing models and growing times an average of 3 photos per design plus an average of 2 per profile which I have an average of 2.5 profiles per model.

My model collection is increasing as is the effort in producing the artwork and the number of images I provide.

Fun times!

[Edit]

I have noticed this is ‘only’ for cover images. Great, only another 330 images to consider recreating for a second version.

Yeah, i’d be happy with 1:1 or 4:3 to be honest, I wish they’d just pick one lol

why not revert to the old way it was?! 99% of us literally had no issues… Ugh… they cant leave anything alone without jacking it all up… They just keep making me mad with all these fancy new aesthetic changes… We lose functionality every time it seems. Im telling you guys and gals, change isnt good… they’re gonna force ppl off and make it so confusing and complicated to even upload anything (and non beneficial) that makerworld is gonna flop! They oughta focus on making things easier, not fancier etc!!

Please don’t!
I don’t feel like taking and adding new images to dozens of existing uploads.

And anyone like me who also publishes on Printables in addition to Makerworld will not be happy about the extra work. It is precisely because of these different image formats that I have already finished publishing on Cults3D.

Looks to me they are more trying to get good looking on Thangs than on thier apps. ^^

If that was just me, I’d just keep the 4:3 aspect ratio. And update the handy app and Bambustudio with it

Sorry to be “that guy”, but, don’t you mean 4:3 ratio rather than 3:4?

Oups… Yeah I meant in landscape not portrait

Wow, that’s the very strong stand (in bold text  on photo aspect ratio.

For me (I can only speak for myself, not for anyone else), the photo aspect ratio will not be the determining factor in deciding which platforms to upload to. It’s only a matter of convenience.

It’s not that simple to crop a 4:3 photo into a 3:4 one without messing up the visibility of the model and overall quality of the photo. A good photo starts with proper placement of the model within the frame. So basically now one will have to take two photos in two aspect radios to use as covers. If GIF is used, it will mean shooting two videos in two aspect ratios for the covers. This is not convenient.

Until recently, I had been using square photos in MW and happily let MW put the blurry border on the left and right sides, becasue while a 4:3 photo looks fine on the web it is scaled down too much when shown on the phone. So in my opinion, a square photo is the best compromise between the website and the Handy. Recently MW made some strange change under the hood that somehow cropped part of the square photos and resulted in some part of the models out of the frame. This forced me to switch to the 4:3 aspect ratio.

I think MW can send out a survey to all accounts that upload models to get everyone’s preferences on this. But like I said, for a platform that is designed to be on both the web and the phone, a square photo seems to be the best compromise.

Or MW can just pick one format, be it 1:1, 4:3, or 3:4, and just add the blurry borders to photos that are not in their chosen aspect ratio, without cropping the photos.

Yes, MW could have kept doing what they did in the beginning. In the beginning, they simplily added blurry borders on my square photos without cropping them which was perfectly fine. I don’t know whey they decided to crop the photos before adding the blurry borders. Now the requirement for two cover photos with two aspect ratios. It’s a head-scratcher

yeah one of those if its not broke dont fix it things

im late to the party wtf did they do. all my stuff was in 1:1 because it looked the best on mobile. now they are changing stuff???

Yeah, 1:1 still looks best on mobile in the model view, but 3:4 and 4:3 works now in the thumbnail view on mobile. It’s a bit of a mess lol
