6 colors needed, but only 1 AMS

Hi all,

Been struggling with my AMS, it arrived damaged and Bambu Labs are sending me replacement parts. Hopefully this will get the AMS working properly.

My question is I have a project I want to complete, it requires 6 colors. I have the AMS, when it works properly. With the AMS and 1 external spool, is there a way to add another spool externally and complete the project properly?

I’ve searched but can’t find anything to say it can or how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can swap colors while it’s printing as long as you’re swapping a spool that isn’t being used. You would need to color the print as if there were only 4 colors and then swap spools as it’s printing. For example, if your printing something that is 5 even colored layers, once the first layer is done you could pause the print and swap out spool 1 for layer 5s spool and then hit play. Essentially using AMS location 1 twice. You can right click on the layer preview slider and add a pause if you need time to swap spools. This would be the same for 6 colors and so on.

Yes, thanks much! I was searching everywhere for the answer and found nothing. Then I tried filament swap and voila, lol… now I need to order a .02 nozzle or two. I’d love to try the CHT nozzles, but don’t want to modify the hot end.

Keep in mind that you cannot use the external spool and the ams in the same print job. To use the external spool you must disable the ams and vice-versa. I regularly print hue forge filament paintings with more than 4 colours using the technique described in the previous reply. Also keep in mind that you need to plan the colour changes in advance as the slicer has to know which slot to use, is a good idea to write it down.

PS i get great results with the stock .4mm nozzle.

If you’re quick enough you can just pull out the filament before it’s due to be used, replace the spool with the colour you want and then the AMS will just continue on like normal. Although I’m assuming if you use BBL filament the QR code will be read and it may not work.

I will be trying that method when I get the right colour in. Also, yes the .04 nozzle works well; However, not detailed enough for some of the smaller items. The .02 nozzle is on its way now, should be here on Monday.
