A Story About the Unexpected Power of 3D Printing

3D Printing in Later Life — More Than Just a Hobby

As the years go by, keeping both mind and body active becomes increasingly important. And if there’s one thing I’ve come to realize recently, it’s that a simple 3D printer can have a far greater impact than one might expect — especially in the life of an older person.

I say this from experience. Not long ago, I gave my father a Bambu Lab A1 Mini. He had always been curious about technology, but his excitement for new things had mostly faded in the recent years. That all changed. Since then, he’s been noticeably more active, much more motivated, more engaged. He calls me often with questions, looks up new models, searches for solutions online (mostly Youtube, it’s more visual). He’s even been getting out of the house more — mainly to come to my place, often with the not-so-hidden goal of convincing me to hand over another spool or two so he can keep printing… And it’s not just me who’s noticed; everyone around him has remarked on the change.

So why is that? What is it about a 3D printer that can trigger this kind of transformation?

I wrote more about this in an article I published.
