A truly better bed scraper. Just sharing this find

I don’t often do a blatant plug for a product but this item surpassed even my Philistine view on purveyors of garbage on Amazon. But now and again, you come across something so simply functional, you have to wonder what took so long for it to come to the market.

I stumbled upon this while looking for models for a razor handle on Thingiverse and Printables. There are versions of this that one can print. However, during my search, I stumbled upon an Amazon ad. Turns out there are over 200 different vendors advertising “plastic scrapers” using the same patent. And truth be told, I can’t print them as cheaply as I can buy two of them with 100 blades. In fact, the cost/filament ratio is about 20:1 so I purchased one and two handles came in the box with 100 blades.

I’ve been using it for about 8 weeks now and it is tailor made for scraping off a smooth plate. The material is either a nylon or perhaps polypropylene slickery plastic that is totally non-stick and just glides over the build-plate with no marks or scratches. In fact, I can’t tell you the last time I used my metal scraper. The blades last surprisingly long but at $0.10 per blade, who cares?

Here’s the search term on Amazon. There were over 300 hits for this last I looked.

In fact, just researching this, I found another vendor just now who’s selling the exact same product for $0.05/blade. Contrast that to the recent Bambu metal blades I got recently(still in the box) and one has to wonder why every buy metal again.

Yes indeed! I got my new scrapers today. And they are nice. Enough blades to last a life time. And they dont scratch your build plate.

Thanks for sharing @Olias

Just ordered a set

Been using these for over 2 years. They work great and never damage the bed. Each of the blades are reversible so the 100 blades last a very long time.

Thanks for sharing, @Olias. I’ve been using the metal scraper blade with a short custom handle, but sometimes missed the printed ones (which are great but don’t last). Ordered the plastic razor just for kicks and I’m surprised how much I love it.

Wondering why you use scrapers ? Never used one myself, just wash the pei plate with dish soap and magic sponge then wash it off with warm water dry it and no problems with sticking or anything

This presupposes that one does not use other filaments, adhesives or non textured PEI plates. As an example, PETG can be quite stubborn to get off of any plate. The scraper makes that task much easier. Likewise, if one wants to use PLA on a specular plate that is non-PEI, a scraper again, comes in handy.

I use the Bambu scraper (the shorty version) on all the plates, it’s the best one for removing ABS purge lines and initial layers from a cancelled print. All the plastic ones I’ve printed are single use scrapers it seems. The bambu one will not scratch the build plate if used correctly.

This wasnt a moan about anyone using a scraper, its i dont lol, i use petg and have no problems getting it off print bed as long as i wash and dry it first
Happy printing

Fantastic find, Thanks for sharing, they make such a difference…
