Hello, not sure if this is possible or requires custom G-code.
What i want to do is specify Support for PLA as the interface layer material for the RAFT only, while the rest of the support/interfacing layers uses the default filament. Any way to do this?
Interesting question. I played around with it and the only way I found in Bambu Studio would be to slice the file both ways and then merge the top and bottom gcode. Orca slicer might have more options?
Separate filament selection for raft and supports -
Why? When printing an object that requires a raft AND supports, one would like the raft to be support material, while the majority of the supports to be the standard print material.
Without this feature, if one would like a raft of support material, the printer needs to swap filaments each layer for the rest of the support, which is very wasteful, time consuming and bad for the print quality because of contamination.
Workaround -
How I’ve solved this now, is by adding a simple object as the “raft”, and merging it with the actual model, and then carefully space the two objects, so the original model just touches the base/“raft”. But this is pretty awkward and janky.
If there is a way to actually set the raft to a different support material than the rest of the supports, i would like to know, else I really would like to push this feature.
You could always model the raft and/or supports into the model as separate objects and assign different materials to them instead of relying on slicer auto generation.
I’d like to highlight this topic again with my own experience. I am currently trying and failing to use PVA support on my models. The main issue it that PVA is not sticking to the textured PEI build plate I am using. I have followed all the best practices for drying, storing, and printing PVA that I could find and I would like to avoid using glue or an alternate build plate just yet. I then though" “Oh! Why don’t I just print with a PLA raft then use PVA supports on top of it?” Thing is, even if that method would work, I can’t change the raft to PLA without also making the support interface PLA. This ruins the whole point of using a secondary support material. So yeah, I too think that Raft material and Interface material need to be separated.
