I just got an AMS 2 Pro to go with my A1 printer. I hooked it up using the PTFE tube connected to the AMS to the filament buffer installed on the printer. It seems a little long, but it works. Should I shorten the tube? If so, what length?
Yeah, you should shorten it as much as possible without you regretting after, because the longer the PTFE tube, the more friction the ams has to deal with, so more probability of ams load fail (it has happened to me). Also, it is better to have a longer tube than a short one with small sharp angles. A trick i use a lot is to try to push manually the filament, because if you can’t, then the ams motor won’t.
The biggest problem with the design is that the buffer moves up and down the gantry so the PTFE tube from the AMS has to accommodate that. For reliable feeding use the shortest tube that doesn’t get pulled too tight or foul anything at either end of the travel. I don’t think you really need that big loop. You can experiment with cutting it shorter a little bit at a time until you arrive at something that works well and that you’re comfortable with.
