I’ve tried cutting a point and I’ve tried cutting it flat/square/perpendicular. I still get problems. And I have 4 AMS-lite units now, they all seem to struggle. I try to make sure the filament is straight, or that I load it in line with the curve. It’s a bit frustrating, I wish I could see inside to see what the problem is - ironically the housing is clear but not in a useful way.
I wish I knew the “right” way to load filament, at the moment it seems pot-luck to if it will work first time. I can’t decide if the “reset AMS-lite options” is the fix or if it’s simply down to how the filament is pushed in and at what angle or other technique.
Surely there is a guy that has mastered 100% reliable AMS-lite loading? If so, we need to find him.
Maybe I get more issues with Elegoo PLA filament, although I think it’s also happened with the Bambu PETG. What filament do you guys struggle with? Any particular brand or type?
I’ve now got much more reliable results by continually cutting the end of the filament until it goes in. Only 10mm or so each time, unless there is a kink from using a filament clip in which case I cut after the kink too. I think a perpendicular cut works better than angled, going against wisdom.
When pushing it in I tried a circular/orbital motion at the same time as moving it in/out as suggested by another user, and this also helped.
Using this combined approach loading is now a joy with great reliability.
Hey, I had this exact problem aswell, I just could not load filament into my third slot and while reading this I just thought to cut of the end of my filament because maybe it was to thick from al the pushing and, indeed it worked.
For my printer, I’ve tried everything that’s on here, but it’s still not working. I’ve been pushing it through and it’s not going down. I tried wiggling it and still not working. I don’t know what to do. Please give me some advice.
Maybe it’s just me - I don’t remember what the official instructions say for loading filament - but I press the orange button down to take the spring tension off for that filament path, poke the filament in (for clarify, up, not down, since it loads from the bottom) and wiggle it around until it starts moving. Sometimes need to pull it back and try again, but after 2-3 goes it will go in properly, and then the AMS lite feed motor will start running, at which point I let go of the orange button so that it can start pulling the filament through on its own. It is only at that point that it will consider there to be filament in that slot.
Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself, but this may have fixed an issue I am having.
My issue is the printer will no longer load or print, either from the ams lite or an external spool with no ams. I basically had a paperweight. It’s a new unit, only got it last thursday or so.
But i turned off all the ams options and also some printing options and I’m now on my second print through the ams.
This is an old thread but it would appear as though people are still suffering from this issue, myself included. I stumbled upon a fix which I’m going to share, though I’m not sure why it works or if it’s a good idea.
Firstly, the issue I’m experiencing is I load a spool into the AMS Lite, I guide the filament (cut at a 45° angle) into the hole, push the yellow button down, and nothing. The gears won’t engage. The filament won’t load. Nothing happens.
I also found that on the problem spool holder it would fail to load filament back into the extruder after a colour change during prints. This turned out to be a case of the PTFE tubing into the hothead was seemingly slightly misaligned (and presumably keeps getting misaligned as it prints) because popping the tube out and back in solved it, until today.
Once again my problem spool holder started playing up, and this time so did the one below it, for no rhyme or reason I took the PTFE tube out of the AMS Lite and tried peering into the hole it goes into for a blockage of some description. Unable to see anything I decide to stick some filament down in there and discovered that this immediately made the gears start turning and trying to load the filament.
After that the other problem spool which started playing up today just started working normally again.
No idea what happened or why this worked. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, you probably shouldn’t be poking things into places where they’re not meant to go, but it worked for me🤷♂️
If you still having this issue as of 07/15/25, the resolution is to make sure ALL filament is disengaged by holding the yellow tabs and COMPLETELY removing all filament from each holder. All lights should be off when you do this, then start reinserting each filament one at a time. This is the only way to fix the issue with changing a single roll of filament.
I have a brand new printer and was struggling with this when I ran out mid print. I cut the filament perpendicular and it worked fine loading into the AMS lite. Cutter it at a point as recommended by so many seems to have been the main problem.
I was getting the same error, regardless of which spool I chose. I read through all of the above, ends up there was a small piece of filament stuck in spool 1, once I cleared it all the others worked fine.
I am also new to an A1. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I usually press the release button for that loader and forward the new filament to about an inch from the extruder rather than let the AMS Lite load the filament automatically. To remove or change a filament I reverse the process and then synchronize the filaments in Studio.
Hi, since getting the AMS Lite we’ve never been able to get the filament to load properly. I’ve loaded, reloaded manually and with the settings. Once it looks like it’s loaded we try and print and the error and get an error saying push in new filament and then it fails. This happens with all 4 spools.we’ve tried switching on and off, cutting filament and switching off options. It’s extremely frustrating! Would welcome any suggestions as I see it’s a common problem.
