I have a brand new A1 with AMS lite and it no longer will allow me to load filament via the AMS lite. After I select the Filament location (1, 2, 3, or 4) on the LCD screen, iPhone app, or a laptop app the buttons for Load, Unload, & Edit all remain unselectable. I have tried the following things:
Power cycling many times. With and without the AMS lite plugged in
Factory reset
Changing which plug on the printer the AMS lite is plugged into
The printer works fine otherwise (I am using the single external spool now) and the AMS lite worked as expected for the first 12 hours after set up. There was no specific event I can think of that resulted in this occurring. In fact, I was able to print via the AMS for my first dozen or so prints and was able to unload the one remaining spool I had working with no issues but was not able to load it again afterwards. The AMS lite simply cycles white lights through all 4 locations now, indicating all 4 units are empty.
I have a support ticket in but would appreciate any other help or ideas to try while I wait for the answer. It feels like a software problem but I have no idea what else to try at this point.
Have you tried in bambu studio ?
Do you have different filament types or have you had a mix ? ( petg / pla )
which was an issue i encountered and had to remove one or the other for it to load
bambu studio will / should give you an error message which i dont believe i got from touch screen and i rarely use bambu handy but id look there also
Yes, I have tried Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy, no luck there. It’s not giving me an error as it doesn’t recognize something is wrong, it’s just not letting me click “load” once I’ve selected the spool location I want to load from. I have only tried PLA (basic and Matte) as that is all I have right now. All 3 spools I have are also Bambu brand, so should be picked up by the AMS. I am going to try a generic spool once I get it but I dont hold too much hope in current status that it will work.
This is just a suggestion , in studio you can add / delete the spools or reels , so that it is only showing as one spool , i do it occasionally , usually when or if i change model colours ,whether it will help or not im not sure but it cant do any harm.
Looking at your picture, you only have filament in slot 3…is that correct…??
Also, there is no reason to really hit “Load”, unless your using TPU or just want to manually purge your filament. Once you insert the filament into the AMS tube & it loads itself maybe 10" it will load to the hotend when that slot is needed.
I found only having one colour slot allocated in studio allows the filament to be placed on any of the ams`s numbered spools , and you just need to tell the printer which slot to use when sending the job to the printer Query would basic and matte be considered different filament types even though they are both pla ?
Thank you everyone. I have this problem solved now. Much of it was “user error”! The machine is new and I was not loading it properly. Thought I needed to hit load before adding the filament.

Hey,
Literally just got my A1 mini with the AMS today and am having the same exact problem. I figured it was a user error due to getting no warnings or alerts but how did you fix yours? The AMS isn’t picking up my filament and I have no idea what to do. Thanks.
Sometimes when you load filament it hits a stop and you think it’s in, it isn’t. You need to wiggle it and push until the gears pick it up and it feeds into the tubing. That might be your issue.
They sent me a replacement main board. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I’ve had the printer running pretty much non-stop since it got here so I haven’t been able to install it yet. Thankfully haven’t had anything requiring more than 3 colors since that feed is pretty well useless until I get it figured.
Struggled with the same issues as OP even after stumbling on this thread. What ended up working for me is cutting the filament at a 45 degree angle and pushing it through.
As an update, I finally got around to installing the new main board. It absolutely didn’t work. I started getting nothing but fail to extrude errors and motor overload errors. I switched back to the original main board and those errors went away. So I’ve updated my ticket w/ support and basically told them they sent me a broken main board.
Solved the issue! Found a way that always works. I had the problem, when I manually unloaded me PLA Basics from Bambulab and swapping for black. And I just couldn’t get it into slot 3 or 4 after pulling the filament from earlier.
Tried to restart my A1 and AMS, also separately. Both didn’t work.
The solution: Go into settings → AMS-Options → Turn off all three things like AMS will check the filament, AMS filament backup and one more (My settings are in German, but it should be similar. After that, you can add the filament again and turn the settings on again. You can probably set them back on after a moment.
I’ve sometimes found that cutting the filament end at a sharp angle allows it to feed into the AMS when I otherwise can’t push it in. Much the way you need to for printers where you load it directly into extruder feed gears.
