Bambu lab
I am a new user an a1 lite. Trying to understand the ams. I found “test pyramid 4 colors”. I load the reels, expecting to print 1 2 3 4, but it prints 1 3 2 4.
I had defined the colors and the order in the slicer and in “device” n.

You can load the spools onto any of the holders.
You can connect any PTFE tubes to any of the four inlets on the print head.
The filament assignments (top-left of the Bambu Studio (BS) Prepare tab do not relate to which ones are selected during print.
Neither does the order in Bambu Handy (BH).
The only thing that matters is you confirming the guesses the software (BS or BH) makes.
You can see four slots shown in the Print window above.
The colours selected are those the slicer (BS or BH) thinks are closest to your own filaments on the AMS lite.
You can select the slot assignment (A1-A4 drop downs) and then choose a colour you prefer if the match doesn’t work.
So the bs and the bh don’t have to be the same?
Are you using RFID Bambu filament, or another brand?
If RFID Bambu, handy and studio should show what color on what # spool.
If another brand, you set it in the device tab in studio and under AMS in handy. I believe if you set it in studio, then switch to handy, it picks up the information from the cloud.
The key here is how both let you choose the colours when you come to print.
If you have everything matched perfectly - it will respect that.
If your AMS is set up differently from what BS is showing it will guess.
In either of those situations, you can still mix it up. The best of all worlds.
You can also do this with other people’s models, just choose what you prefer to use rather than what someone chose for the photos.
So, the creator of the model sets the order that the reels will be used.
So, tomorrow I want to print using a single color, a different color then that is loaded in the ams, If I knew how the printer would start, that is which reel will open first, I could remove the spool from that position and replace it with the new color, I could then go ahead and print my single color job, having tricked the ams.
Or you could simply set all parts for the same color.
I often just use color fill to change the models colors, cause the colors offered in color fill are the colors in my AMS
The designer will include the filament set up they used when printing the models.
They could choose these.
You may wish to print with those colours, but, your AMS is loaded as follows:
When you print, the window I provided previously is shown and a similar one for BH.
It will try and match what was set in the profile and what you have on your AMS.
It will then match like this:
You could then choose to swap out Blue for Cyan.
You physically remove Blue from the AMS and replace it with Cyan. You then tweak the choices the auto-match selected for you as follows:
Then print.
