A1 combo footprint

what sort of footprint is required for the a1 and ams lite to have a tidy but adequate workspace? I’d rather avoid any mounting kits if possible. looking around my apartment and trying to visualize where i can squeeze it in without adding an entire workbench.

thanks for that, everyone.

It’s exactly what kept me from ordering the combo a few days ago. That and the realization that I won’t print that much multicolored prints at all. Then you still have the AMS unit standig around. Plus: you can’t just use it to set up your most-used filament rolls, because they will get bad due to the humidity…

If you want to get creative, consider using longer PTFE tubing along with a 4-pin micro molex extension. This way, you can position the entire AMS further away like under your desk or on a high shelf so it doesn’t have to be right next to the printer. There are also designs for stands: like low-profile and, vertical stands, the latter probably the best option if keeping things close to stock IMO to make the most of your space.

Even though you said you would prefer to avoid them there are tons of options to consider depending on your circumstance. Some others being printable wall mounts, overhead mounts or try the supported top bar mount. You can even separate your spools from the feeder, which can help with organization, have the spools remote or even inside a proper dry box.

I have my setup on a shelf in the spare room cupboard, measuring about 50x80 cm, with the A1 placed sideways and the AMS behind it. This arrangement requires care to prevent the PTFE tubes from snagging on the Z-axis bars. It’s not ideal due to sliding cupboard doors, making spool changes slightly more annoying, and I’ve also had to consider fumes which led me to move the setup from its original location in my bedroom. I plan to mount the AMS Lite overhead or under the shelf once I get a cable extension. Whatever you do if it is not close to stock ensure the tubes are routed properly, and manually move the extruder everywhere to check for any snags or other issues.
