Since “the problem”–to whatever extent it actually exists–seemed to disproportionately affect users running at 220v, I had somewhere earlier in this thread tentatively asked whether using a transformer to stepdown voltage to 110v and powering the A1 from that as a quick and dirty workaround to sidestep “the problem” might work. However, at least a couple people jumped in almost immediately saying it would either be dangerous and/or extremely expensive (literally thousands of dollars in equipment). It was unclear why to me this would be so. I thought maybe I had neglected to consider a floating ground or something, so I deleted it, not wanting to lead anyone astray. However, I see now on a different thread that people seem to be doing this anyway, though motivated by different reasons:
It doesn’t matter to me, as I’m running at 110v anyway, but can somebody explain what exactly was/is the concern? One concern voiced was whether running at the lower voltage but at 50hz instead of 60hz might be incompatible. That I can’t disprove, and so I follow that much. However, were there other considerations beyond that?
