If the incidence is really that low, then I don’t think it’s a problem.

Dont get me wrong. I still think there should be a recall.
0.5 percent is a huge number when you are talking about this stuff.
My hope is that this is this issue is isolated to a batch and they do not have to recall all of them.
The comparison to appliances is not a great one. The failure rate on appliances is about 1 in 10000 and they are built with a 6 to 15 year lifespan in mind. That engineering did not go into the A1. A fire risk is also not the same as a general failure mode. A failure of the machine loosing functionality and a fire or flood risk are different animals.

However, to be fair, it must also be said that fire risk has yet not been confirmed - and there has been no fire.
Way too hot? Absolutely! Dangerous? Absolutely! Leave it unattended? Dangerous! But so far, we have not seen either - the housing or the circuit board - catch fire, despite many documented cases.
The current situation is that, in the worst case scenario, hot plastic will ruin your table. However, not hot enough to set the table or printer on fire. Because despite all the justified fuss, we’re “only” talking about a thermistor here, not a flamethrower.
Sure, if someone places their 3D printer on a highly flammable surface such as carpet… well, that’s a problem.
I continue to wonder if Bambu has been tracking their mfr lines as well as the auto industry. When Ford recalls a vehicle for a bad part from a bad batch, they’re able to identify 100% of the VINs(serial numbers for our printers) that contained the bad batched parts. So they dont have to recall tens of thousands of units for what is 100 suspicious parts. They wouldn’t need to even poll the sales data, bambu’s online functionality ensures they know exactly which user account (and email addr from which they can notify you) is associated to which serial number.

I don’t understand why you are so hesitant to call this a fire risk.
There is a flaw that increases the likelihood of a fire occurring. Simple as that. You do not need a full blown house fire to consider the risk of the product. Excessive uncontrolled heat is a fire risk and that is exactly what we are seeing here.
In many of the images you can see that the housing has caught fire. Do you not see the melting, sagging, and charring? Along with people reporting the pungent smell of burning plastic. Good on them for using a flame resistant polymer, as we have already discussed, but you have to realize that these polymers will still ignite after sustained heat exposure. Please take a look at fire resistance ratings. If something like this happened on a product that I am working on, we would turn over the world until it was fixed. You can release warnings to the customer, but you also have to realize that most customers are going to ignore them at some time. If it takes someone putting their A1 on carpet for a house fire to happen, Bambu is still liable for the damage that occurs.
Because there’s a difference between your whole house burning down and just a table being damaged? What probably makes the difference is whether Bambu plans a recall or not? Whether human lives are at risk or not?

Whether your Tesla burns down completely, endangering people’s lives, or only a small circuit board in the car smoulders makes a difference. In one case, the car has to go to the repair shop immediately and should no longer be driven; in the other case, it’s just bad, but that’s no reason to recall all vehicles.
Despite all the problems, I doubt that, because it’s common knowledge that 3D printers get hot and are not toys. You wouldn’t put a toaster on the carpet, either. While that would probably be a case for the courts and insurance companies, it would by no means be straightforward.
Surely Bambu has also made sure somewhere that it should be placed on a suitable surface.
As I said, I’m not defending Bambu here, but I am a fan of facts and of considering the gray areas, not just black and white.

Yes and No. They are different examples, but they are the same concept. The step to go from a damaged table to a house fire is not as large as you are explaining it. One of the most common causes for house fires are lit cigarettes, a very small flame can do a lot of damage.
…and I agree with you, that’s probably the biggest problem in the big picture. That such devices actually belong on a fireproof surface and, at best, in a workshop or at least a designated room.
It appears that Bambu does not claim its
a1 conforms to any actual fire safety certifications. So, in terms of liability, maybe that means it has none? Maybe Bambu could just say we were stupid for buying it without it, but it was our choice to do so.
Ehmm did i not read all the H2 printers now have fire detection since it was needed for the laser cutter anyway ?

As already mentioned, this only applies to the laser version H2S - and there is an entire fire extinguisher system. What are we comparing here again? ![]()
In addition to other safety features such as smoke purifiers / air purifiers, laser-safe front glass, and emergency stop.
Perhaps the new A1, or rather the A2, will also come with a retrofittable fire extinguishing system. ![]()
It’s what’s joking referred to as the “China Exemption.” Imports are held to a lower standard than what a domestic manufacturer would have to meet, which supports even cheaper imports, and the undermining of domestic production.
I’m giving up on ever arriving at a consensus opinion, because different people view the risk differently, and there’s no enforceable standard to point to that one can say A1 does or doesn’t meet–because it doesn’t declare compliance with any standard.

Here’s an argument for complacency that might give some comfort if you already own one. Assume for the moment that it really does contain a dangerous fatal flaw. I’m not saying it does, but for the sake of this particular argument just concede a possible worst case scenario is, in fact, reality. Then, with so many units already in the field, the odds of yours being the first one to burn a house to the ground are low. For example, if there are 100,000 units in the field (or whatever the number is), the odds of yours being the first to (again, worst case scenario) burn someone to death would be no worse than 1/100,000. Pretty good odds, actually. So, keep tabs on the forum, and if it gets reported that somebody else’s house burned down to the ground because of an A1, well, maybe get more concerned then, but don’t spend a lot of time worrying before then, because the adjusted risk (accounting for the unknowns) is even lower. Just don’t do anything stupid that would make it more likely that you’d be the first one to go up in flames, like plugging up the ventilation ports or resting it on dry paper in a low humidity environment, for example.
