A1 Mini, Bed adhesion is impossible to fix

I have been trying for multiple months to fix the adhesion on my a1 mini. I have already checked if my printer is under a vent. It is but even with the AC off, the print still fails. I have also tried cleaning the plate with anti-grease dish soap, which doesn’t work. I am using bbl PLA and I can do test prints or pictures if you would like. I really need help, as everything just says that my bed is dirty and it’s not.

Yeah pictures are the best way to troubleshoot.

Print out a 3 layer sheet of the full build volume. Mostly labeled as “bed cleaners” and let us know how it goes.

I assume you are using the textured PEI sheet?

I assume you have run calibrations?

We could do with a lot more information.

  1. Does this affect every model?
  2. What sizes have you tested?
  3. Have you tried a single layer test?
  4. Have you tried a tall thin cylinder test?
  5. Have you tried a wide and deep test?
  6. Have you tried different parts of the build plate?
  7. Have you tried the other side of the build plate?
  8. Have you tried another build plate?
  9. Is this on a textured build plate?
  10. Are you using default filament settings?
  11. Are you feeding filament using an AMS or via the external input?
  12. Have you tried Fawn, Fairy or other non-scented, without additional cleaning additives?
  13. Can you provide photos of the failed prints before you move anything of the build plate?
  14. Have you noticed any correlation of issues at specific heights/layer counts?
  15. Are you using a 0.4mm stainless steel nozzle, if not, what are you using?
  16. Have you tried a different nozzle?
  17. Is the existing nozzle visibly clean?
  18. Is the existing nozzle visibly bent?
  19. Can you provide photos of the nozzle front the front and side, either in place or on the build plate, either way with the sock removed?
  1. What is the environmental temperature?
  2. Is the heat bed warm to the touch?
  3. Can you measure the plate temp?
  4. Have you ever had a successful print on that build plate?
  5. Did you alter gcode in an attempt to fix the issue?
  6. Does this occur with Auto Bed Levelling enabled?
  7. Is your heat bed distorted or tilted?
  8. What is your plate cleaning procedure and tools? (Use a dedicated (!!!), stiff and clean brush/microfibre cloth (depending on build plate type) on the plate)

Or… starting with a few pic’s and bullet points on your observations could already help us to narrow down on the issue

can you provide an example/model of #5? I don’t know of/can’t find a test like that

Hopefully youve been in the room once while it happened. Is it smacking the object on the plate and knocking it off, pulling it off gently, or some other failure mode? Tall print and too fast is also a bad combo for a1, so try silent mode and/or a slow profile.

Can you do a test with a spool outside of the Creality SpacePi and feed using the external spool adapter and a straight PTFE tube into the print head?

It would be good to rule out any potential friction, even though it is unlikely.

Choose a print you know has failed before.

  1. How long after you owned the printer did this start?
  2. Are the failures consistent (every print), or how often (is there an interval) and is that random?

2-3 months and every few prints (random)
also here are the 2 tests, nothing looks wrong to me. I am printing a print I know has failed right now

Your nozzle is clipped on wrong, look close at mine. This makes a huge difference. The clip should be inside of the clasps yours is on the outside.

I had just changed the nozzle, issue was fixed

after fixing the issue this still happened on a test print

Part of the print was being pushed up by the nozzle when I found it

If the nozzle clip issue has been corrected, my next step would be to run a full calibration especially if you just saw the nozzle rubbing/pushing against the print.

Also, look at this wiki page. You might want to check all of the screws on your hotend assembly. It starts at step 2 - #7. A1 Series First Layer Print Issues - First Layer Too Low, Hotend Moving | Bambu Lab Wiki

Many thanks for the extensive reply. It would have led me down the standard textured plate troubleshooting (use a clean stiff brush rather than a sponge).
However, the pic you showed illustrates bad brim quality and curling defects.

This strongly hints at the loose screw issue identified by @Ulade .

PS: Addendum:
Although I am puzzled about the perfect 1st layer test…
That does not quite go together…
Maybe a slow (50%) print of the troublesome print/object with freshly dried material and supports enabled can shed a bit more light…

Do you dry your filament? How? Do you store your filament in any particular way?

What kind of ambient humidity do you have where your filament is stored?

On textured PEI if I used wet filament I also had adhesive problems.

a 50% speed print resulted in a perfect one, looking into the possible screw issue right now

I have to leave for a few days, but Ill post an update in 2-3 days

Uninstalled and reinstalled the hotend heating assembly finding no loose screws except one loose screw to the right (circled) it does not screw in tight and twists loose one I screwed it in fully. Also I have replaced it before, not sure if that matters. All replacement parts were bought from the Bambu website

My dryer automatically fires my filament at 55C for 8 hr when the humidity gets too high. It is usually at 40%

40% RH is too high at least in my experience but the other guys know more about your printer.

That’s definitely suspect for me but that’s also an “it depends” kind of number. If that’s the average humidity your filament sees all the time, that may at least be part of the issue.

If you put a spool of filament in a gallon ziplock bag with a hygrometer, it will tell you if it might be an issue. I saw water issues at 25% RH at room temperature. The defects weren’t near as bad as is in your photos though, but I was seeing adhesion issues in some lifting on corners, and top surface scarring from the lifting.

But it may be other stuff too. Lots of things can vex these things.
