A1 Mystery Freeze & Axis Noise – Looking for technical insights

I’m trying to understand a strange event that happened on my Bambu Lab A1 (10 days old). I’ve been able to continue printing successfully for 4-5 hours since it happened, and the quality is still great, but I have two technical questions.

1. Sudden freeze in purge zone during print During an active print, the toolhead suddenly moved to the rear purge/wipe zone and stayed there. The nozzle remained at printing temperature, causing the white heatbed trim to melt before I could manually cancel (Error 0300-400C).

  • The Question: Why would the printer trigger a purge/park move mid-print and then completely hang? (I wasn’t using timelapse or filament changes at that moment).

2. Directional noise (X and Y axes) I’ve noticed a specific vibration/grinding noise that only happens during powered movements (Y moving to the back, X moving to the right):

  • Manual check: When the printer is OFF, moving the bed (Y) and toolhead (X) by hand is perfectly smooth and silent. No “flat spots” or resistance felt.

  • Maintenance: I have already lubricated all axes following the official guides, but it did not change or reduce the noise.

  • Powered movement: The noise only occurs when moving via the App/Screen or during an actual print.

  • The Question: If manual movement is silent and rails are lubricated, does this suggest the noise is related to motor resonance or software calibration rather than physical damage to the rails/bearings?

Current status: Despite the noise and the melted plastic trim, the printer passed all calibrations (vibration/resonance) and the print quality (first layer, perfect circles) seems unaffected.

I’d love to hear if anyone has experienced this “park and freeze” bug or knows why a noise would only appear during powered moves but not manual ones even after lubrication.

Thanks for the link! I actually have a support ticket in progress, but I’m trying to gather more technical insights while I wait for their reply.

Regarding the noise, do you happen to own an A1? If so, do you notice a similar vibration or grinding sound when moving the axes through the Bambu Handy app or the screen, even if manual movement (with the printer off) is perfectly silent?

As I mentioned, I’ve already lubricated the rails following the official guides, but the directional noise (Y to the back, X to the right) remains only when the motors are engaged. I’m trying to figure out if this is a common resonance on the A1 or if the ‘freeze’ incident caused some electronic/motor calibration issues.

you can try recalibrating, also wait on support ,making sure you have supplied the relevant info ,logs, images or short video

I managed to recover the recordings from the ‘ipcam’ folder on the SD card. The footage clearly shows the sequence of the incident:

  • Normal operation: The print was proceeding perfectly fine until the sudden failure.

  • The Crash: The toolhead suddenly stopped its task, moved to the rear, and “dived” into the back of the bed.

  • The Result: It remained stuck there while the nozzle was still at printing temperature, which explains the melted trim and the PEI damage.

This confirms the printer crashed mid-print while on Firmware 01.07.01.00 (received Jan. 7th, incident happened Friday Jan. 16th).

I’m sharing the footage to see if this “sudden move and freeze” behavior looks familiar to anyone here.

Does the assistant have a message/error code? On the plus side, I’ve been having a problem with a new A1 mini and support has been really quick and helpful (I hope - waiting on parts that I hope will fix my issue). Good luck getting your problem sorted out!

The screen was completely unresponsive when it happened. I had to flip the power switch manually when I heard the grinding noise of the motors forcing against the heatbed structure.

Support did get back to me and asked me to open the bottom cover to check the AC board for any electrical burns or defects. I’ve sent them the photos of the internals (which look clean) along with the footage from the SD card showing the crash. Now I’m just waiting for their next move. Thanks for the luck, I hope your Mini gets sorted out quickly too!

Out of curiosity, how long have you had your A1 Mini, and what specific issue did you encounter with it? Also, how long did it take for support to diagnose the problem and offer you a solution? I’m trying to get an idea of their typical turnaround time for these kinds of cases. Thanks!

I run 3 A1 minis in a middle school library. We had creality enders and flashforge printers before making the switch to Bambu. (Bambus are way better!)

2 we’ve had since September, and got the 3rd in December. It is the newest one that I’ve been having issues with. These printers run pretty much non-stop. Students send me their creations (or what they find on thingiverse) and I manage the actual printing.

My problem is that mid-print there is a grinding noise, the extruder goes back to the purge zone, then goes back to print until it happens again. It happens every couple of layers, but gets progressively worse. There’s a clear flaw in the print where it happens, but I’m not sure if the flaw comes first or the grinding/purge happens first.

I tried everything I could think of, and everything suggested by the assistant, and ended up contacting support. I’ve gotten replies to all my comments within 24 hours, and they are sending me a new y belt to try and will send a new sensor if that doesn’t work. I’ve been very pleased with the turnaround time!

That’s good to know! I received my first reply on Monday morning after submitting the ticket on Friday evening. I sent my follow-up with the photos and the SD card footage the same evening, so I’ve been waiting for their next response since then.

Hey, guys! My new A1 (AMS combo) is having the same issue. We just bought it, not even a month. And we’re looking for solutions before contact support. Your problems was fixed? What happend? I’ll try to send my fottage here :slight_smile:

Have a look at the x axis belt - does it look like it’s on an angle?

Are you getting any errors?
