After yesterdays 14 hour debacle of getting firmware updated, I’m wary of traveling down this rabbit hole, so I want to find out if this is even possible before diving in.
I have been told that some Bambu Lab printers can operate in a LAN that is isolated from the internet. So far the A1 has completely failed, won’t operate at all without internet access, even in LAN ONLY mode.
I should point out that the issue seems to be with Bambu Studio, not the A1. The A1 will connect to the LAN and I can see and ping it from this PC.
Has anyone had any success with using an A1 in LAN mode without internet access?
Hi
I have a router connected to my A1 printer and my PC. I cut the router’s internet access: I can control my printer perfectly with LAN mode, without any problem. Only the Bambu Handy APK is inoperative.
Note that printing via a µSD card is just as functional.
The problem is that with the next firmware (next AUTH), even in LAN mode, Bambu lab request connexion to its cloud… But after users’s messages, it seems that Bambulab will add a parameter to bypass this connexion over Internet for LAN mode, which is much better : even with an Internet down, we would be able to print over our LAN.
That remains to be seen in practice in order to be believed.
Somehow, in light of recent events, I rather tend to hold Bambu "guilty " until proven innocent, which, under the existing circumstances and extremely low (read “non-existent”) level of trust between the parties (read as “complete loss of customers trust”), it will definitely be a very difficult target for Bambu to achieve.
The good people over on Reddit helped me work through this. In this case I must have set the firewall setting incorrectly when I got the popup during installation.
I can access my printer using Orca Slicer now, I don’t think I want to give Bambu Studio access, but I now know how to should I ever need to.
I did it myself by getting the MAC address of the printer from the internet in my router 24/7 parent control, but I also removed all software from Bambu, Handy and Studio because Orca already looks the same as Studio. and I don’t want to give bambu a back door to get to the printer.
my trust of bambu is in te level of frozen water
