A1: Struggling with PETG printing, stringing

Hello, I am completely new to 3D printing and have had A1 printer for about two weeks now and so far it has been pretty much plug & play with Bambu Lab PLA printing. The quality has been good and consistent. However, after buying a “third party” PETG filament, it has been a constant struggle to get the prints right.
There is a bunch of stringing (and also adhesion issues but I hope to solve these with the 3DLAC spray that will be delivered tomorrow). What I find weird is that some models that consist of one big element look rather good, but when I print models that consist of many small parts, it looks like a cobweb. This makes me believe it’s related to the settings, rather than the filament itself. The same thing happens with other colors.

I have read a bunch about this issue, asked around, and the list of potential causes is so long, that I don’t know where to begin. My guess it has to do with the retraction settings, could someone with more experience please guide me, as I am really clueless?

Don’t mind the spaghetti, unrelated adhesion issue. Note the rather good quality of the tool holder that I printed just before the stringy print. Also note that apart from the stringing some parts have blobs, like the fingers

I don’t own a filament drier yet, but I guess I might have to invest in one.

  • Printer: A1 with AMS lite
  • Type of filament used : JAYO PETG High Speed Matte, 4x in different colors
  • Environment: Basement 17°C, 60% RH

As a test I reduced the temperature of the layers to 240 degrees, first layer remains 250. This has so far yielded much better results.

Adhesion issues seem solved after using 3DLAC.

stringing, there is moisture in the filament. make or by a dry box (research filament drying) … also after a few pints take a damp cloth clean/wipe the build plate! any of the standard plates also consider cleaning with isopropyl alcohol will fix adhesion. also it dont harm to use some 3d print glue stick on the area your printing as well. + look up brims (mouse ears) … i exclusively print with petg … after like 2 months of starting my 3d printer journey since dec24. i mostly find just using any 3rd party petg high speed filament works just fine on the bambu petg profile.

Needs drying. Especially the HF variant of petg.
