@JonRaymond - so we can post 3mf files here in the forum now? That could be very helpful with troubleshooting but also sharing designs in development for collaborative work.

Confirmed!

Looks as though upload picture has been replaced by a more generic upload file. That’s progress! :star_struck:

Police quarrels, what a throwback

@JonRaymond I just realized this was your test file, thank you for the laugh with “Police Quarrels”.

@JonRaymond You’re obviously in my circle of trust, so I didn’t hesitate to download your test file. I seem to recall that in the past though some people had voiced concerns that a .3mf file might harbor a virus payload. So, as far as downloading a .3mf file from a random poster on the forum who isn’t yet in my circle of trust, is that any longer a possible concern, or has it been fixed and is now a non-issue? I haven’t kept track.

A throwback to when? I must have missed it when it was in fashion. I thought maybe it was code for something else. Do tell!

This is a bit of an inside joke as it comes from the now deleted thread by Platini76 where they threatened (via PM) to start “Police Quarrels” with anyone that had reported their content they had stolen from other creators.

@Dr_Operator first made a joke about it in that thread as well.

Stl/step/obj files are passive in nature and considered safe. A 3mf file could potentially contain unsafe files of a different type (as it is essentially a ZIP file) but they would need to exploit a bug in your slicer or be heavily obfuscated. .3mf files could potentially cause more interference with your slicer, but it’s unlikely to be exploitable.

Downloading a .3mf from the forum has the same security risks as downloading a .3mf from Markerworld or Printables. If this is a security concern for you than please act accordingly.

Igor’s memory is much better than mine. I couldnt remember the details, I just remembered a guy was really mad and threatening everyone with "police quarrels ".

OK, thanks for the backgrounder. If there have been no known problems to date, then I’m not going to worry about it. Even if someday someone did find a way to subvert it, it seems like the propensity for it to spread would be low before somebody noticed and posted a PSA.

Whole kettle of fish in that file… I take you’ll moderate for copyfight infringements, thats unless they’re all PD here

That is a welcomed feature indeed. I thought I was going crazy when this icon appeared:

Which utility do people here like best for unpacking a .3mf file to inspect its contents, as GenericUser apparently did?

As a windows users, I personally use 7-zip.

Confirmed! This has been enabled yesterday

We would recommend everyone to share their .3mf files when they require assistance for troubleshooting.

Please avoid sharing copyrighted models, as they will be removed.

If such files are found, we recommend everyone to report the model so we can quickly remove it.
