About to order H2D to add to the fleet is it worth getting a 2nd AMS2?

As the title says trying to figure out if it is actually worth the $359 to get a second AMS2 pro to pair with this thing to put on the other extruder, as that way I can use the entire bed I assume. I do a lot of multi color printing in our business, just trying to figure out the most effieicent way.

When playing around in the slicer I can add 2 full size items within the smaller area of the h2d bed. Adding a second AMS allows 1-2 more items at full size to be added let alone probably a couple smaller ones.

Is anyone running 2 AMS 2 Pros on the H2D, how well is it working for you?

I would think the biggest benefit for you if you don’t do multicolorprints is to have auto reloads for both nozzles. I have two and they work great. It’s also nice to be able to heat with one if you’re only printing with the other

For me I dont feel like having two AMS 2s is needed, I have the AMS 2 and HT. I can do 5 or 6 filaments if needed by connecting both AMS units to the right hot end and loading the left from external spool. Yes you can print the full 350mm print bed size in multi material with two AMS 2s but its a pain. You need to split the object and the print time will go though the roof with multiple hot ends flushings for each layer. Also the quality and strength might not be the best at the seam where you split the item.

It’s working great for me… My HT should be here today, and depending on availability, I will end up purchasing another. I like having the remote options that having multiple AMS and now 2Pros bring to the table. Having them in a nice, sealed(and now heated and dried) state, just waiting is beautiful. And then, if I need to print a larger object(that’s over 24 hours it seems), I no longer have to worry about running out.

It requires a different mindset I am finding with this machine. It’s part of the learning curve, that because it’s bigger, to stop thinking of “single roll” filament purchases. It’s going to take some time for me to get used to that. But the 9 days, 10 hrs my machine shows, I’ve burned through a lot of filament! So I’m adjusting to that. Having 8 rolls(should be 9 after today) available is a benefit for me.

But I can’t imagine not having multiple AMS units… Even on my P1S machines, the experience with the H2D has made me do a few upgrades to them, to make the printing more functional and similar(still testing these tiny upgrades). I’m sure my P1S machines, that have multiple AMS, I’ll end up adding HT’s to, simply for the price and ease of use(I’ll have to see how to integrate them into my workflow). But that’s is my anticipation.

Personally, I can’t imagine not having multiple AMS units anymore, and period, even if I don’t use them all the time. And I’m just a hobbyist level user. I can’t imagine trying to use them to make money, and not having multiple units at my disposal. Once the abilities to do more remotely surfaces(like starting a dry cycle), that will only increase this, and I personally am very excited about the prospect!

My understanding is if both AMS’s have the same filament in them for the right and left exclusion areas, I would not need to do anything like splitting the object, etc. It would just go like normal?

Right now you have to split the object manually, perhaps in a future update of bambu studio this will be automated but not yet. Also as I mentioned previously there is a seam at the border point that introduces a weak point, so its not suitable for mechanical prints. Basically 350mm wide printing is severely compromised and slow, not something useful IMHO.

Its definetly worth it. This is my actual setup, one AMS 2 Pro for each nozzle.

I had 2 AMSs connected to my X1C so moved 1 from that , is it better to have 1 AMS on each nozzle ? , I some multi colour print which are 8 colour , I don’t know if it helps with flushing , but I put the light colour in 1 AMS , white , light blue , light pink , etc , and put the dark colour in the other , black , red , blue , orange etc .

There doesn´t a clear answer exists. It depends on the demand of the color changing strategiety of the part you want to build

Also I forgot to mention… for 350mm printing not only do you need to split up the object manually but you also need to paint it manually as well. Even though the colors are the same on both sides, you need to “paint” them with the secondary spools of the same colors, its quite the hassle as I mentioned. You can test it in the slicer before you get your H2D, my guess is once you see how difficult it is you will drop that idea as I did after doing it once or twice.

Dual AMS units give a TON of flexibility, and with 8 spools loaded there’s a good chance I have something in there I can use at all times. This morning from work I remembered I needed to run something, and had what I needed already in there and waiting. 100% recommend 2 of them.

You’ll want two AMS filament loaders 100% - choose the ones that best fit your workflow and the types of materials you use.

I run two AMS Pro 2 and one HT-AMS

Do I NEED two ams2 pros for my H2D, no…but do I really dig having them both? Absolutely!

Here is the procedure for 350mm printing, keep in minds its much more complex with multiple colors and/or complex painted objects.
