ABS printing and squeaking

I was having very bad squeaking problems a while back, and I did clean up the printer, carbon axes and all… after a while the problem seamingly had resolved itself. Today I printed some ABS and… the X1c has gone squeaky again. Must I assume that this is normal and ABS is giving off particles which bother the machine?

That does happen a bit, as I’ve found out. There was a guy that posted up somewhere awhile ago talking about ABS on his P1S printers. All the printers he used exclusively for ABS would have issues, and that film build up. All the ones he used for PLA worked mostly without issue. Really clued me in to what that film was that was forming on the glass surfaces of my P1S.

I get a squeakiness/noise too while printing ABS, caused by the nozzle going over the last layer or infill. It’s been a minute since I’ve printed ABS (Because of the above issues with the fumes), so can’t give exact details on that, but was always something that stood out to me.

Okay, so not just me… thank you Josh for making this clear. I have that one print to finish with ABS here, but after that I’ll avoid this material if I can. Is there anything else, useable in the AMS, that I could use for sturdy prints? I know that CF materials are not recommended…

Bambu’s CF materials should be fine. I’ve printed with the PLA-CF they have and it was fine in the AMS. PETG-CF should be fine too. I really want to try Bambu’s PETG-CF. You should be fine with regular PETG though, just slow the max volumetric speed down a little, as the defaults can be a little too fast. (Based on my own experience and reading from others that had issues with PETG).

For ABS, might be worth looking into some sort of exhaust system. I think a few people have explored those ideas. I haven’t yet, but I like ABS, so seems like it might be worth it.

I’ll give it a go. I have custom petg buttons on the AMS to prevent friction, I hope it will be enough to prevent damage.
At some point, I’ll have an extraction hood on the ceiling. That should help with the fumes… talking about fumes, I know how to clean the rods etc. but what can I use to clean the internal surfaces of the X1C?
