Hello All,

Any suggestions on reducing the stringing when printing with ABS on an H2S printer?

Dry the filament thoroughly before printing.

Ive done that and am wondering if there are some other settings that might help as well.

Not being flip - how do you know you dried it? Thing is many filament dryers can be ineffective and even though you go through the motions, the filament may not actually be dry enough to print well.

You can do things like weigh the spool before and after drying and a bigger weight difference at least indicates you may have dried some or maybe even well, but it can’t tell you if the filament is dry enough to print well.

The easy way to actually know filament moisture state is to put it in a ziplock bag or plastic sealing cereal box with a hygrometer and read the value after it settles down. I haven’t tested ABS to know the line but I’d guess it needs to be below 20% RH at room temperature in this test.

If you test your filament and it’s above 25% I would guess you might have found the issue.

Properly dried ABS should barely have any stringing. I dry mine 8hrs 80C in a blast oven.
But here’s a H2S setting I used to great results that you can try anyway.
Everything else, stock, because I mostly print the GF variant.

Did you try lowering the filament temp 5 degrees?

Help us out by telling us what method you used to dry the filament roll.

What temperature and for how long, using which dryer/drying method?

If you are using a method that can’t hit 75-80C, you really have to extend the dry time with ABS and ASA. 18-24 hours in a dryer at 65C or less may be realistically necessary.

Are you able to post a picture of the the stringing? On the part? Sometimes stringing is actually poor bed adhesion.

Huh? Just yesterday I found an old mostly-used spool os SainSmart ABS. Tossed it in the AMS and used generic ABS settings. Printed great with zero stringing. That spool ahs been at the company longer than me - I’ve been here 11 years. Just sitting open in a drawer.

I have never known ABS to string much, even when not dried. Sounds like it might not be moisture.
