Acid-free test for Activated Carbon

Saw a couple of posts asking for sources of guaranteed acid-free activated carbon.

Here is one way to actually test for that: 3D print a small carbon holding cube, have a small fan blow on it, enclose in a tupperware box with a few steel sbolts & drops of water. If any rust appears within 24 hours keep that carbon the HELL AWAY from your printer !

He used a 60mm fan. If you use a 12v one you could use something like this:

or this for batteries:

I used a 60mm 12v fan and drove it with an adjustable bench power supply.

Just pick any 12v or 5v fan, and then drive it with either an AC-DC adapter, a DC-DC converter or DC power supply, or batteries. Or, simpler, just use a 5V USB fan

Fans are usually very flexible with low voltage. So a 12v fan for instance will still work if you only have a 9V DC source.

Very true except you can only go under on voltage. Go over too far and you can pop the fan circuit board. Just saying it for complete information. Betting you already knew.

Can a chemistry person explain why you’d go to all this trouble is instead of grinding some up, dumping it in water and measuring the ph? Maybe squirt a little buffer in also?

It’s frustrating how many activated carbon items are for sale on Amazon DE and pretty much none have any mention of acid-free. Where do EU buyers get this stuff…?

(I went Amazon because site but it won’t let me sign in with Shop app, I always get error encountered.)
