Add ability to adjust Z-offset while printing

I have a Bambu H2S that stopped printing and paused over the weekend due to a filament-end abnormality. My PC-CF filament has a lot of shrinkage as it cools, so this is a really big problem for me. This has happened many times on my H-series printers already. Sometimes, I’m throwing away up to $50-60 worth of parts. In all, I have thrown hundreds of dollars worth of prints away.

Usually if it is on a weekday, resuming it the next day works - albeit it doesn’t always look perfect.

On my cheap Elegoo CCs it is very simple to adjust the Z-height after a paused print. You simple hit resume, and as soon as it is printing you can go into the Z-offset settings and adjust it on the fly.

Could the ability to adjust the Z-offset while printing be added to the printers? At least add it on the H-series(big printers) which can have way more shrinkage depending on the size of the part. It could be a developer mode feature(use at your own risk type of thing).

I really doubt being able to adjust your Z by 0.10 halfway through a print is the control that lets you “save” an engineering filament print thats been sitting baking on the bed paused for 48 hours…

Just sayin its not a thing I would try to continue even on my qidi, which does have live Z, live flow, live speed, etc. None of those controls help the damage done by one layer having a layer time of 172,000s while the layer above and below are 20s.

I just want to echo what @Bullocks is saying - the play here is getting to the bottom of why you have so many print interruptions, not finding ways to get better at resuming from interruptions.

…and if you’re printing engineering parts, which I’d assume you are given the material choice, they’re garbage even if you could resume. Consistent part strength and predictable behavior is predicated on consistent layer times from one layer to the next.
