I’m having better luck with second color text added in Bambu Studio versus adding it in F360 or TinkerCAD, after slicing. The text is, for some reason, slicing and printing a lot cleaner when added in BS.
However, I can find now way to add text in a circle, or along an arc in BS. This seems like a pretty simple function, and I can’t understand its omission.
I guess it’s just one of those “add it to the list” sort of features we’d like to see.
I agree, it does appear to be an omission but it’s also open sources so someone has to agree that it’s important enough to spend time on. I for one would love to see it.
Truth be told, I use the text feature a lot and I find it clumsy that I have to import something into CAD and deal with the mesh headache that produces simply to get a wrapped text around a curve. I might suggest using Blender but blender has a steep learning curve that I abandoned simply because I don’t use it for much else. But it does do exactly what your looking for and it’s of course free and open source.
You could make the circular text in Inkscape or similar and export a svg file. That may sound like more work but if the normal implementation is anything to go on we’re in for some fun with a circular one.
Converting SVGs and changing geometries at the same time is a hard target to hit. I’ve tried using inkscape a number of occasions with mixed results. CAD ended up being a better option. You may want to try performing the operation using OnShape which has a learning curve but there is a short tutorial on how to do it in 6 steps. Onshape is and web based so there is no software to load on your machine.
Then simply export it to either an STL or STEP file.
However, this tutorial assumes you are already working with a vector format. If not, then you’ll need to convert the STL file to a STEP file. I’ve found that most online services struggle with any STL with too many polygons. However, the best one I found so far - at least worth of a bookmark - is this one. While not perfect, it seems to do the best job.
NOTE: You may have to right-click in Bambu Studio and simplify an STL model to fewer polygons then reexport it to an STL to get the file conversion work. This may create an unacceptable low-poly shape, FYI. But it’s better than nothing.
Alternatively, you can try to create a rounded text in some other program and then export to an STL solid. Then use a Boolean merge inside Bambu Studio. That would be a desperate last measure move if it were my choice but the BL Boolean merge function may surprise you now and again. For me, it often doesn’t not work as advertised, but when it does, it is amazing.
So, I was struggling with this, and I tried the SVG import route, but I wasn’t happy with it. I found this YouTube video that explains how to do it step by step. The first method uses a Sphere and can be found at 18:30 of the video and the second method uses a Torus, and can be found at 24:29 of the video. I prefer the second method but that’s just a personal preference.
