But it would also be good if I can recognized the Printer experiences straight away.
If printers that the user uses right next to the profile photo, that would also be helpful.
It’s mainly to recognize younger people who probably got their A1 mini as a birthday or Christmas gift. Of course you answer everyone decent, but sometimes the answer should simply be, talk to your parents first.
Or maybe add. a kids corner where they can ask or topics can by moved to so one kid is recognized.
Hank I’ve read this post… many times. Many, many times. Just to make sure I understand you correctly with this system if a new user signs up and they only have an A1 Mini listed you would determine they are under age and suggest they talk to their parents first? Am I getting that right?
This could be a “experience required” model level? Which of course is a great idea imho, but everyones perspective to what is a 1 star compared to a 3 or 5 tends to muddy the idea.
Oh, this is a can of worms.
I am generally not a fan of excluding someone just because of (insert deficiency here). A photo CERTAINLY isn’t a good idea.
I’m just saying that the risk for very young people increases with the A1 mini. I’m not saying that everyone who has an A1 is a child.
You can do whatever you want with the information - I became cautious, especially when I came across a gentleman’s YouTube channel, because the question he asks seemed really strange to me.
Then I realized that you have to be very careful with answers here especially for people who only move on in the A1 mini part and than asking a question somewere else.
I’m also considering a printer consultation where there was a lot of advice. I first asked about age and what was the result?!
And if a new user comes along who notes a Prusa MK4 or an old Ender beside his profile picture, this will siriusly help in giving the first answer. And I’m also sure they will get much faster and much response.
And if someone writes down an X1C or an P1S and printer from a few years back, they might get answers from the right peoples… and no statements from someone that see it as the only correct ones after 5 weeks of printing.
So if I understand you correctly, your suggestion is that we establish a method, voluntarily of course, where individuals can associate their level of experience with their username, and one of the criteria you’re proposing is to use the printer model as a demographic marker?
If that’s the case, doesn’t the forum already do this based on where messages are posted? I have to admit, I’ve set up my forum interface so that I don’t see A1 or X1 posts since I own a P1. I’ve also muted the foreign language sub forums because they aren’t relevant for me, and I can’t contribute there.
I do see the benefit of providing more user background information. For example, I generally don’t engage with posts from users focused on making “craftsy” models, as I’m more into making functional parts. That’s not to say their contributions aren’t valuable—I come across useful insights from them regularly—but I usually only interact with posts in sub forums that align with my interests.
I’ve noticed a trend: owners of the A1 Mini tend to be testing the waters, while those who’ve invested $500 or $1,000+ are generally more serious about the technology. They tend to want to dig in and understand more so than those that approach this more casually. I have more in common with those folks. This isn’t a hard rule, just an observation. That said, if I see someone posting lazy, frivolous content, and their name pops up more than once, I put them on ignore. It’s likely they won’t contribute much or aren’t putting in the effort to help themselves. I’m happy to assist anyone who genuinely seeks help, but I have little patience for those who expect others to solve everything for them without trying first.
The one filter that helps police itself for me at least is the user that doesn’t bother to adopt a handle and remains with USERXXXXXXX handle or won’t load an Avatar. That’s a tell. What do I mean about that? It’s usually a person who is not interested in being a community member and far less likely than contributing. I generally do not respond to those folks and often place them on the ignore list if they are frequent trolls.
@Hank I have an A1 Mini and two Voron 0s. Are you able to calculate my age using that info? Also do you associate the word mini with youth due to its diminutive size?
Yes, I would prefer more information. But directly visible as it used to be in standard forum software. Were even a standard footnote can also be inserted.
Whether someone does it or not is up to them. Normally you do this when entering a new forum because you get answers more quickly. e.g. when entering a solar system forum or whatever.
Usually there are also forum sections like: New users introduce themselves - and they are usually at the top so that they find them first.
Because of the Voron’s it’s very likely that you’re not between the ages of 8 and 12 and if you are, I’m very proud of you for being able to screw them together.
It’s not a test and especially because you have children, you know that they taking answers very seriously. What an adult can easily handle can be a real blow. It’s just an indicator - if it’s yellow, you can still cross the street, but you’ll naturally just be more careful.
Maybe you haven’t noticed yet - there are users here in this forum who also have several printers which each one is massively more expensive than an X1E… Do I now feel discriminated against? Certainly not - they’re simply operating at a massively higher level than it makes sense to me.
