Added second X1C and all profiles/PA start crashing

So after horrible 2023 with all the issues with bambu Studio and issues with custom filament profiles diapering, they somehow managed fix such a simple bug (I am working as software architect).

Recently purchased second X1C and all the issues are back !

  • Custom profiles are not showing again in AMS device tab
  • What is worst, the custom profile’s calibration profiles are gone! (they are still on management page, but cannot select them from software, only AMS)

HIRE PROPER DEVELOPERS BAMBU ! WE ARE PAYING PREMIUM FOR YOUR DEVICES AND SOFTWARE IS SUBPAR !!!

Anyway, for a community, will be printer use AMS selected calibration profile or am I stuck with a brick that won’t print with PA’s and have to go back to Voron ?

I consider returning it as it is pointless to see same issue that supposed to be solve, is very easy to solve by developers, but they simply do not care. It is task for a junior developer not for a whole team!

I am sick of their subpar development team that cannot write quality code for months…

I would just use Orca Slicer.
I have never used Bambu Studio

@Spoon Are profiles for AMS’s & calibration saved locally? (in orca)

Sorry, I don’t know the answer to that.
What I can say is, I have two X1C printers and have never had a problem with profile saves.

As a software developer you should understand the following answer.

Orca Slicer is a fork of the Bambu Studio source code. It contains a superset of functions that are either missing from Bambu Studio or were not migrated from Prusa when Bambu ported Prusa into Bambu Studio. The Orca developers are 3D printing enthusiasts who add, not subtract, features into the slicer. One of their big achievements is that they blend the features that were not migrated from Cura Slicer and left out of Prusa Slicer, from which Bambu Studio is derived. If you have not explored scarf joints as an example, that’s something they released in 2.0.

Orca uses the same BambuSource.dll as Bambu Studio. There is no need to uninstall one and choose another. Both can coexist on the same machine. What you will notice is that Orca’s 3MF files are functionally neutral and you will on occasion get complaints of values that are found that are ignored. These are not relevant as far as I can see.

Studio and OrcaSlicer both store their User Profiles locally. As local files, they can be backed up like any other file on your computer.

OrcaSlicer’s filament preset editor can enable pressure advance and store a K value, Studio’s can not.

If your preferences allow preset Auto Sync through the Bambu cloud, both slicers will use the same User presets and slicing with Studio produces g-code using the K value established in OrcaSlicer, overriding whatever value is shown on the Device tab.

I think Bambu made a poor choice when it created Custom profiles, storing calibration information in the printer/AMS (or are they in their cloud?) where it seems to disappear. I understand their wish for Makerworld to be independent of the computer, printing direct from tablet or phone, and slicing files in their cloud. But AFAIK, Handy does not provide a way to perform the calibrations, so you still need a computer to calibrate a filament. Bambu could have just as easily accessed existing User profiles in their cloud to obtain filament settings.

I don’t print directly from Makerworld, and don’t have an AMS, so maybe I’m misunderstanding the value of a Custom preset. To me, Custom presets are just a needless complication.

@Spoon

Unfortunately seems that latest FW update bricked both AMS on both X1C.

They just refuse to work, cannot set any custom profile (despite clean restore on both units).

I had that issue last year but I won’t wait now. If they keep re-introducing same issues to AMS it will be pointless. 3D Printing for me is just a hobby and I haven’t paid such huge premium to get a brick. Better to buy Prusa XL then support this useless company.

Well that’s a pain.
Can you downgrade the firmware to when it did work?

@Spoon Bambu has put a lock on firmware, you cannot downgrade.

Thankfully I have just one that is outside of a return window. I will sell it with little loss and invest into something that doesn’t brick your printer and stop you from downgrading to working version.

I am actually looking at Creality AMS as their price is really good, but I have to wait fairly long.

What firmware version are you running? You can downgrade via the Handy app.
