Hello guys, new to the forum. Using lightwave and export to stl.
Just wanted to ask regarding support structures for holes.
In this kind of object, do I need to put small support structures to print this?
Can I put a thin mesh(red) from top to bottom in all holes so that it prints correctly?
Or what would be an easier solution so that the print would not fail with this kind of object?
Thanks for any input.
You don’t need to add support to your design at design time. The slicer has a variety of support options. As your design for 3D printing extends there are useful design tweaks that can make you design not need support and be nicely removable so others can print successfully. But at this stage use the slicer.
Enjoy.
Try slim tree supports in BS, or if the object is small enough that will bridge just fine. In my experience, with default settings, the P1P is great at bridging but somehow supported horizontal overhangs look quite bad. I just bridge whenever possible.
I tried to use BS auto supports. It’s closing lots of holes that are not intended to be closed.
I tried chitubox and it does it better. Can I use chitubox for this printer instead?
IDK doesn’t seem like a problem. I guess I’m still not sure what you’re getting at. The green is support that removes fairly easily post print. The top picture is conventional support and supports flat structures better than tree support in the bottom picture. The middle picture is snug support and what I would personally use here.
Hmmm…that’s exactly my thoughts. I don’t really see the issue with the model. That’s how I typically send models to be printed out.
The person doing the printing that owns the actual printer pointed out the cutouts could be a problem.
