i have found the size of the cut tool to be a bit large and hard to fit in certain areas i cant seem to find a way to scale the size of the cut window, i think it would be very beneficial to get into tight areas you desire to cut
What do you mean by that? The cutting tool cuts on an infinite plane. There is no size. Do you have screengrab to illustrate what you are seeing?

I think you’re misinterpreting what is on the screen. That grey are is simply a reticle used to provide site guidance. It scales to the size of the object being cut. Note, I am using Orca 1.9 with the improved sighting tool but the function doesn’t change in earlier versions or in Bambu Studio.
Here’s an example. Take two object primitives and initiate the cut tool. You’ll notice that the size of the cutting reticle scales to enclose the object.
Now create an assembly.
Then employ the cut tool and you will see the reticle scales to fit the four corners of the geometry of the max X/Y distance of the entire assembly
That grey square is simply a visual aid.
I think his issue in the example image he provided is that he wants to be able to cut one feature of the same model without cutting another feature on the same plane.
Using his example:
Maybe he wants to cut the head of the trident without cutting the head of the creature.

Exactly. You can do that with selective cuts as explained in the video I shared.

Can you not use a negative part (cube) and scale/place it as you need if you must have a “scalable” cutting tool?

That actually makes sense. Then to restated the request, what he’s looking for is a way to define a “cutting tool”.
There are tons of videos on how to do that simply using the negative object or Boolean mesh tool.
Here’s a simple example. Define a cylinder and a second object, in this case a cone. Make the cone a negative part. Then move the part into the location where the cut is desired. One can make it any shape they want.
Use the Boolean tool and then exporting the STL will make it a permanent and portable model that can be used anywhere.
I used this method extensively when I was molding two organic parts into one piece. In fact, this tool works better in the slicer that it does in CAD.
Correct. I have the same issue. I need to slice off a very small projection in a model that has some issues. Pulling it into meshmixer allows one to do a cut, and the cut plane can be resized, say you only want that cut plane to be about 1/2" square. There is no way I can find to do that. and I need to.

Feature Request (Technical, Updated with “Word‑style handles”)
Title: Add resize handles to the Cut Plane (bounded cut area)
Description:
The current Cut tool in Bambu Studio uses an infinite plane that slices the entire mesh.
Even when using Local Cut, the plane still affects the whole object.
Users often need to cut only a specific portion of a model, but the infinite plane makes this impossible without affecting unwanted areas.
Requested Feature:
Add resize handles (similar to bounding boxes or Word‑style corner handles) to the cut plane, allowing the user to shrink or expand the effective cut area.
This would allow the cut plane to behave like a finite rectangle instead of an infinite plane.
Why this is needed:

Selecting shells manually is slow and error‑prone.

Complex models contain many small or hidden shells.

Users often want to cut only a small region, not the entire object.

A simple resizable rectangle would solve 90% of these cases.

Ciao si anche io utilizzo il taglio selettivo mostrato in quel video, la mia idea era per rendere le cose piĂą rapide, delle volte mi trovo a escludere decine di parti, quando in un secondo scalando il piano avrei potuto fare la stessa operazione in modo piĂą rapido e non rischiando di escludere parti che poi servivano ( giĂ capitato), tutto qui.
While I appreciate the video explaining how to do this. Simply being able to adjust the size of the cut plane would have taken less time even on the complex model in your example.
In this image I just want to remove the pink behind the grill. Being able to adjust the size of the cutting plane would allow me to do this in under a minute. I wouldn’t have had to hop online and search for “how to”. Your explanation in your video is excellent and easy to follow, but the feature the OP was asking about would make this considerably faster.
Edit to update. Because of how this model was made, right clicking just removes all of the pink. So, I’ll have to just waste filament and chop it off with a Dremel after it prints.
You could cut off the part that needs no cuts and then only selective cut the part you are interested in and re-attach the first cut later.
Nothing is perfect, but it is still a great tool.
