Advice for running a p1s in a brick shed

I am thinking of buying a p1s and putting it in my brick outhouse {my house is very small}

does anybody else use a shed for their print setup ,and if so what are the main obstacles to overcome and how to achieve a stable enviroment for the printer and ams ?

In order to know for sure, we would need to know more details about your brick shed. However, I can mention a few key points:

  • How humid is your environment?
  • Is the room heated in winter and cooled in summer?
  • Any open areas where air can blow through and affect print quality?
  • What about dust?
  • And let’s not forget: What about the power supply?

Jason, we don’t know your climate, but I assume the shed has no heating or cooling, so you may have issues in cold or hot temperatures. Humidity may also be a problem, as filaments stored in the shed can absorb moisture. Without climate controls, rust may form on metal when sharp temperature changes create condensation—this could be fatal for guide rods.

My workshop is only partially heated or cooled. I keep it at about 10° C (50° F) in winter unless I will be in the shop all day, when I will raise it to about 18° C. I still need to preheat the enclosure to at least 24° C to print any material reliably.

In the summer heat, I’ve had trouble printing PLA and PETG because even with the door open and top off, the enclosure will become too warm. I have to run a small window air conditioner to lower the room temperature to 25° C, and the chamber to 38°, or the filament cools too slowly for proper adhesion.

I had an X1 out in my wooden shed for about a year and a half. It could do PETG at temps of 5-10°C.

Once it got colder, I let it hybernate until I could move it insides. All that condensation…

Edit: Addendum: Also consider dust. My X1 could handle it, but plate handling got a bit complicated. Especially when using glue on the smooth plate.
