The AI models are getting out of hand on Makerworld. I’m tired of seeing AI photos models you can’t possibly print. They need to put a stop to it.

When I see ‘em, I report ‘em and usually block the profile that posted them.
That’s the only solution we have at the moment.

I normally have a picture of a model that I HAVE printed out to show that it CAN be printed, but then use the AI images that I used to create the model itself as a guide or indication as to how I developed the AI created image into a model that can be printed out.
As far as I am concerned I think this is acceptable, so should not have to remove those AI images I post. IF the there is concrete evidence and proof that the model can be printed, then I cannot see an issue.
However I DO agree that if it is just an AI image that has been posted then that model should be deleted, and the creator/poster should be suspended for a couple of weeks, with a warning not to do it again. Persistent infringements should result in a ban - 3 strikes and you’re out scenario.

It’s a big difference to show how you got there versus someone posting the only picture is impossible to print and being very deceiving.

If the cover is AI it is to bait you in, then the only way you have to check is to click on the model go look at it, I don’t want to waist so much time, I have finally figured out there is a reason people are using AI cover images, it is because the real image doesn’t look good,

I have yet to print any thing that looks like the AI cover, not one time ever, I look at the reviews with pics of people glowing about how good it is and think to my self , but that is not what the cover image looks like, I want to know it will look like the cover image, not some hidden image I have to dig for.

Something I have been wondering, would it be acceptable after I print a model, to post a review with an AI image that doesn’t look like the model I printed?

100% agree, theres been so many times where I’ve looked at the cover, thought “ah great, this is perfect for what I wanted to print for a gift/ for myself” only to look at the actual model and be extremly disapointed its NOTHING like the image shown… I’ve started to crack down on which images are likely false advertising verses real prints, but now that seach is becoming impossible with more and MORE posts using AI images to trick you or to show thier prints “look good” its getting beyond unmanagble now, and the makerworld admin need to cull these accounts/ uploads or at the very least, block them until they remove the offending images or uploads. This should be a place for makers and genuine users, not AI slop and “catfish”

the only model i threw is made from a chain of ai services 
the best prints I did are the same. AI services are great tools 
on a greatness scale I think they’re superior than the advent of the mp3 compression

Agreed, and using AI generated pictures created to look like a print should be an immediate removal of the model.

Ever since reading this I’ve been trying to find one. I have not found anything that looks unprintable. Do you have any examples of these AI pics?

Below is an example of what I consider bad use of AI in model presentation.
I created this model as a test 7 or 8 months ago while experimenting with different tools to see what they were capable of. My kids actually think it is a good model. I am less convinced. I do think it is better than a lot of models I have printed or seen posted, but adding color to it makes the print limitations very obvious.
Could someone paint it and make it look better? Probably. But that is exactly the point.
Be honest with the listing. Show the real printed model first. Then show the painted version, slicer colored version, or AI concept image after that. Do not lead with an image that makes the model look cleaner, sharper, and more polished than the actual printable result.
The image above is what AI says this model looks like. When I see that, I expect the downloaded model can realistically print close to that result. Good luck making that happen.
This is not even the worst example. In my opinion, this is a better than average case, and it still is not good enough for me to consider it acceptable as the primary listing image. I‘d never put my name on this and try to promote it to others…

Stop being lazy by using Ai. If you can’t design it, create it, draw or paint it yourself, you shouldn’t be doing it period, that’s what REAL artist, creators, designers, engineers are for! Stop putting crap out into the world!

It is not a question of being lazy, it is a question of being new to the world of 3D printing, and needing a bit of help to get me to where I want to be. I am 60, and although I am pretty savvy with computers, and using the AI stuff available, and also 3D model generation software such as Tripo3D, or Meshy. But to start from scratch?? I wouldn’t have a clue! I do use Meshmaker, to adjust my models created by the formally mentioned, or to add detail, such as plaques for figures ready for adding text with the splicer (It is total garbage if you add text beforehand and get the 3D generators to produce that).
The model generation software, takes so long to try and learn, I am doing better the more I use it, and that is the point, it takes TIME. The results you try to model, also may not be close enough to what you are really trying to aim for, so again that is an area where the AI will help, as it more or less gives you what you are looking for straight away, and only needs a few tweaks.
If we went by your philosophy of anyone using AI shouldn’t be allowed to upload (not your exact words I know). then you would probably lose 25% if not more of the models uploaded on Makerworld. Another problem is even REAL artists cannot achieve the details that AI are able to by using modelling software alone - IF they can fair play, but it would mean they have YEARS of experience on using the software.
Remember, the Makerworld website is for EVERYONE irrespective of their talents and abilities. To cheese you off even more I will hopefully be loading up tonight a model of Ezio Auditore, that I have printed out, it has come out great, and done without any sculpting software. I would be interested to know how long it would take for a REAL artist to accomplish the same results?
I am not dissing REAL artists as I believe they are in fact the BEST thing there is in the 3D modelling world, and there needs to be more of them. SADLY though AI is reducing that number, and I hate to say it but obviously I am one of those who use it all the time. Not because I want to, or I am lazy, but because it is the only way for me to put down all the ideas in my crazy head into the real world. I am crap at sculpting, drawing, and using art software. So what alternative do I have???
