The one on the left is a model kit from Games Workshop. The other is available on MW. I printed it in resin and didn’t give any craps about support or finish, so eh.
I’d say…pretty damn close to a full on copy. What do you say? I could be wrong, maybe it’s just inspiration.
I don’t care if someones printing proxies that are straight one to one copies, just don’t think that’s really exclusive or point worthy.
I think mostly just removed from exclusive. I’d let GW fight over its existence. Given that little model was over $70.
As for my Resin, it’s just an Anycubic Photon Mono M7 Pro. What a mouthful
No, GW has had leviathans for years. Also have charged stupid prices through the years. Currently $72 on Amazon. Way more than what it’s worth. The one on the left is the retail. I’m not sure how he did it on the left (he won’t explain right now) but it’s nearly identical. I don’t really want to know how he did it. I don’t begrudge him, just think it shouldn’t be exclusive and he should give it a different name.
That’s my only issue, although there are others involving copyright and such. GW doesn’t allow their models to be in .stl form (unless somethings changed) but they do allow bits and modification to their models for play. You just can’t sell them.
That’s why most 40k stuff you can print has odd names. GW is incredibly litigious and guard their IP aggressively. But that isn’t my point, it’s being in the exclusive program.
Not arguing, but really?
I didn’t assemble his all the way, but it also came with the body guns at the waist, and the missile launcher on the top.
I’m going out on a limb here but the skull on the front is a bit that’s optional on the kit, as is the seal and speaker grill on mine. The model is kind of modular to a degree.
I see them as almost identical. Especially the weapons, which I wish I hadn’t thrown out a couple of weeks ago.
I think GW might have a case to go after them. You may not have installed all the extras, but a lot of the main details are consistent enough that it’s obvious enough to me that whoever made that MW model was trying to recreate the GW one.
How that impacts Bambu and it being an exclusive? I honestly think that has more to do with how legal GW wants to get. I don’t have as much experience in that space with how GW acts, but if they want to lean into it like Lego, then I am of the opinion that Bambu shouldn’t allow it as an exclusive, as it’d be a liability.
As someone that really wants to play warhammer though, and those minis are expensive as ffffffuuuu. That model…
The overall assessment probably depends on whether this mech is based on a preexisting character from a game, movie, or series, or if it’s an entirely original design (not my area, so I can’t say for sure). If one of these models came first as an original creation, then the other is definitely a ripoff.
No, one of the biggest similarities are the weapons. I think he i includes 4, that’s what the kit came with. I should have put it together with the same weapons I have. The weapons are identical.
What’s cool about his model is you can add magnets and load it out as needed. I reprint with care and do it all up, set it on the shelf with mine.
