Algorithm and item Popularity

Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand how the app’s algorithm works. I published two similar items, but their popularity is quite different. What factors could influence this? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Makerworld, like many online platforms, likely uses a complex algorithm for ranking models, but they probably won’t disclose the exact details. However, we can make some educated guesses about how it works:

  1. Engagement metrics: Your first model may have received more likes, collections, downloads, or other forms of user interaction compared to the second model.
  2. Visibility snowball effect: As a model gains popularity, it often appears in “trending” lists or recommended sections, leading to even more visibility and engagement.
  3. Initial traction: If your first model gained early traction, it might have been displayed higher in the trending filter, exposing it to more users and further raising its popularity.
  4. Image Quality: The platform users consider factors like image quality, description completeness, or other indicators of a well-presented model that make it more clickable. People may just like the colors of the first model you posted.

This is speculation based on common practices in social and content platforms.

you never noticed an impact depending on the time and day you publish? in your case you have quite a few followers

The Strat was released 2 weeks ago, the Tele was yesterday.
Plus the Strat is being rotated on the front page.

I know but after 2 days online the stratocaster was already at its peak and was not going up anymore

I am not into guitars but could it be that telecaster is a less popular model than stratocaster and therefore is searched less often or attracts less people?

It depends on the keywords use for the search.
Words inside the title have more values than the tags.
The shorter the title is , less diluted is the keywords inside the title, the better it will rank.
And of course, downloads count also plays a role in the ranking.

What keyword did you use in your search?
