Add a way for the AMS 2 Pro and/or the Extruder to know (draws a bit more amperage) when filament is nearing its end on the spool and is fixed onto it with some tape or hole in the spool.
When this happens it can/will trigger the cutter and retracts the bit of filament back to the spool and continues with the new spool .
End of spool now is triggered by toolhead filament sensor but many times the filament is fixed onto spools with tape or through a hole in the spool and therefore it doesn’t let loose or want to take the tape with it into the tube.
In my suggestion it detects that because the amperage of the AMS and/or Extruder will go up which can trigger the spool change at a certain level.
Doesn’t seem difficult to me (technical background) …when peak in power (A) AMS and/or Extruder do filament change.
I know there are 3d party solutions (ams saver … printed one but gives it to much friction)
But this would be better,helpful and more reliable , professional Bambu way too
If for whatever reason the last bit of filament is separated from the spool and moved beyond the filament feeder in the AMS, and the printer wants to change filament, the AMS is not able to retract that piece of filament back into the AMS.
So your printer stalls while you might have setup a spare spool.
The printer has a condition for when the AMS can no longer retract the filament but there is still a section loaded into the tool head. It will purge this filament out the back.
But still…the request would be a big step solving the end being taped or stuck in the spool situations…no?.
Or another would be all the producers of filament make the end let loose so it will go through being really the last bit off filament and the sensor picks it up and changes the roll.
So no tape getting in the PTFE tube or damaging the AMS while stuck in a hole on that roll
In my opinion the “spool tape issue” is severely overblown. My experience with printing close to a thousand of Bambu spools/refills is that I have only ever had one spool that has ever had an issue and that was at the very beginning of then they started taping spools. Of course your mileage may very but that is my experience. I don’t run any printed cutting/snag system on my printers as I’ve never had the need to.
Im sure any health and saftey wouldnt allow anyone to hold filament in place when it starts winding to a point where some actually push it through little holes in the reel
