Am I the only one who couldn’t care less about Helio?

Of all the things Bambu Studio could be working on it seams to be Helio. The last two Studio betas have focused on this. I don’t get it. does anyone really pay for this service and is it really worth the time Bambu puts into it?

They are missing out on a lot of great features that they could easily grab from orca slicer.

Am I the only one who couldn’t care less about Helio?

For the TL;DR crowd: Helio Additive is a software company founded in 2020 that provides cloud-based thermal simulation and optimization for 3D printing workflows. Bambu Lab is offering it as a paid add-on service that appears aimed at commercial and enterprise use cases.

What stands out to me is not whether this feature is useful, but whether Bambu Lab really understands what enterprise customers will need before adopting it.

From an enterprise point of view, the concerns are not hard to identify:

  1. This is a cloud-based service.
    Helio states that its simulation and optimization tools run on infrastructure hosted on AWS. For many western technology companies, that immediately raises questions about data residency, retention, access control, export control, and internal approval requirements.

  2. This appears to involve more than a basic local slicer function.
    Helio describes the service as simulation and optimization that runs through its cloud platform. Even if the service only processes G-code rather than native CAD, many companies will still treat manufacturing instructions, process settings, and printer workflow data as sensitive information.

  3. Enterprise adoption depends on more than technical capability.
    Even if the feature works well, enterprise customers will want clear answers on data handling, contractual protections, administrative controls, and whether the service can be fully disabled or segregated from sensitive workflows.

So the issue is not whether the feature works. The issue is whether Bambu Lab and Helio can provide the level of transparency, contractual protection, and administrative control that enterprise users will expect before approving it.

As for my own use, I do not see enough value to justify the added cost, cybersecurity risk, and control concerns, especially given Bambu Lab’s privacy-hostile posture toward its customers. Bambu Connect is the obvious example: it was not a user-driven feature, yet Bambu forced it on the customer base. That is not a company that inspires trust on data handling.

Thanks for explaining that Olias, I hadn’t got a clue about it either and wouldn’t have bothered to look if I’m honest. I won’t be subscribing.

Agreed. 100% of the time on helio slop is time wasted not fixing the hundreds of crazy issues the slicer has.

I was offered a trial so I clicked yes. My model uploaded but nothing came back and after a couple minutes waiting I killed it. I won’t be going there again. I was intreated as I print quite a bit of PA6 and the GF version is a bit ‘dynamic’ on the bed.

Thanks for the detailed info. It feels like Bambu’s priorities are a bit off. They seem to be bikeshedding while chasing some SaaS upside. Meanwhile, the U1 and the open-source community are pushing hard on full-spectrum development, which honestly makes me really want that printer.

I have no use for Helio today. :slight_smile:

It’s cool they put this into the slicer, but they really don’t have a machine that can utilize it efficiently, at least yet. It’s even pretty slow on the U1 based on the small layers required for the best look.

I’m not really a fan of FullSpectrum as a bigger answer to multicolor printing because it does not really solve the main problem it just shifts the tradeoff around. I can see the appeal for certain use cases like toys, gradients, and decorative prints, where the blended look is part of the goal, but to me, it is not a full solution for high-quality multicolor printing. You are still giving up speed and still making compromises to get the effect.

Don’t get me wrong, the U1 is a very interesting device. I can see why it’s turning heads.
