Is there a location where I can read about the current status of the AMS 2 Pro. What it can do currently, and what is still in the future.
Only AMS firmware documentation I could find was much older than my current versions for the AMS and the AMS 2 Pro
I’ve got the released 1.08 firmware installed and a new AMS 2 Pro on a P1S. With the external power supply the AMS2 can dry (though i have only gone far enough to see that it would allow it, I have not actually done it). Mine is printing fine, changing filament fine. Occasionally with the spool nearly empty it fails to feed (it’s in the feed mechanism but the angle is such the spool kind of hangs). Just manually moving it a bit and resuming and it works fine. I’ve so far auto-refill-changed spools 4 times without issue.
I have only one AMS2.
Note if you upgrade firmware you first disconnect the AMS2 entirely, upgrade the P1S, then plug the AMS2 in, it will then upgrade the firmware on the AMS2 as a separate step. It’s not all that obvious, and looks like it is upgrading the P1S again, but it does the AMS2.
You cannot trigger drying from Handy or Bambu Studio, only the panel on the printer.
You can’t dry PLA in the AMS2 unless you un-feed and clip the filament on any PLA rolls (apparently it may get too soft inside the mechanisms).
Again, I have not actually done a drying run, to me it’s too much trouble and I just dry in my external cheap dryer.
What Version are you indicating for the AMS2 on the printer touchpad?
AMS (x 2) - 00.01.06.62
AMS 2 Pro - 02.00.19.68
Printer - 01.08.00.01 [Beta]
Also, what are you showing for humidity on your units?
My two V1 AMS indicate 36% and 34% while the AMS 2 shows 26%.
I’m puzzled in that I thought the reason people made all of the AMS Desiccant containers with an insert opening in them was to facilitate putting a cheap hygrometer in was because the Gen 1 AMS did not have a humidity sensor in it. So where is that value coming from?
If that’s to me I have the same here:
AMS 2 Pro - 02.00.19.68
Printer on 01.08.00.00 (released).
My AMS2 shows (its own measurements) 12% and 30.7C. My own DHT in there (on the clear plastic beside the reel) shows 23% and 25.8C. The AMS2 sensor is down below the reels and probably picks up a lot of heat from the printer (which it sits on) and its own mechanisms. I don’t think it’s the best place for a sensor for ambient, but it’s probably there to control drying since that’s a likely hotter spot to be the upper limit.
So you do not have an AMS? Just an AMS2?
I’m curious if the older AMS do, in fact, have a sensor that has only recently been enabled. I do not recall seeing humidity/moisture on my regular AMS devices until recently.
Correct. I have no idea about the AMS2, very new to the Bambu world, it was what came with my P1S.
The AMS2 humidity sensor, before the P1S firmware update, only reported an “index” of humidity (can’t recall about temp), so it wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t showing all they know.
I just bought an AMS2 a couple of months ago specifically for it’s drying capability and its ability to maintain the moisture level low over time. In that respect, the AMS2 is behaving as I expected, along with having the moisture indication. Can’t really dry efficiently without a humidity reading.
The original AMS that I bought as part of a P1S Combo is what I do not recall having an onboard sensor. Same with the second AMS I bought (total 3 AMS).
Bambu Studio’s AMS indications have had some significant changes over the same time as when they rolled out the new printer, laser, AMS HT,(which I have bought for TPU)
How does the MAS2 maintain the moisture level low when not drying. Or are you saying you will periodically dry to do so?
Humidity level readings are pointless while drying, they are only useful to indicate whether ambient conditions are conducive to the filament staying dry. Soggy filament at 10% RH stays soggy (well, on any reasonable time frame).
If you read the literature on the AMS2 it insinuates. YMMV as does mine but you can interpret the below that way. No real difference (if the seal is good) between storing a dried spool of filament in a cereal box. It’s all about ambient moisture laden air circulating across exposed filament.
I built a rack to stack my AMS’s on top of each other and during that process I had to modify the mount it sits in to provide a vent for the vent in the bottom of the AMS2 only. So part of the drying process is pulling air in, heating it, venting moisture laden air out of vessel. See the highlighted part on picture of specs

Automated venting facilitates dehumidification during drying and ensures airtight sealing for weeks of high-quality printing.
es muy sencillo, no es para secar, es para mantener la temperatura del carrete de Nylon ABS o cualquier material, secar no seca. Para eso ya sacó bambulab su caja especifica
The AMS2 Pro dries filament. That is what these last several posts have been about. I posted the original question to find out if they had uploaded the firmware to do that. Bambu Lab shipped AMS2’s prior to enabling that feature.
I’m curious what that really means. Always dangerous to read much into marketing-speak, especially translated marketing speak.
I assume it’s saying that vents open during drying and close otherwise, but I don’t believe that the drying feature does anything to de-humidify when not drying, it just keeps ambient air out?
The “detection” just says it gives a readout, it doesn’t seem to imply it DOES anything with that information (like raise the temperature if humidify goes up).
I think adding a lot of desiccant separately is still the right thing to do. Besides, I have to add another spool every day or three, at which point any dry air inside is mostly replaced with ambient – only way to get that dry is desiccant if you’re still printing.
I also read something that says you can’t dry and feed at the same time but did not specify how that works. Wiki to the rescue.
Auto-rotate Drying
During the drying process, the filament spools rotate automatically to ensure more even drying.
Rotating spools means the filament has to come out of the AMS Feeder nozzle. Otherwise you make a filament rats nest.
Can I dry filament while printing?
Currently, drying is not supported for AMS 2 Pro/HT that are actively involved in the printing process, including those that may be used for automatic refill during the current print job. Printing while drying is not yet supported.
The above was the driver for me buying a sepate AMS HT for TPU
