AMS 2 Pro - X1C Connection - Need to upgrade FW?

Beyond the whole controversy regarding the authorization control and latest firmware release for the X1 Series printers (v01.08.05.00)

I’m very interested in the AMS 2 Pro’s features and find that more suited for our X1’s. But having not upgraded to the latest firmware versions as of today. Question is will I be able to connect and use the full capabilities of the AMS 2 Pro without having to upgrade FW?

Or from what I’m understanding this is what was going to occur to users that wished not to upgrade?..

Please refrain from talks about the debacle over FW. I just want to know if its going to work or not work without updating.

Thank you

As I understand it, the AMS 2 will function currently as an AMS with any firmware on the X and P series but the drying function will only be accessible with a yet to be released firmware for the X/P. At some point it is also my understanding that the AMS 2 will be have the ability to be used in a A series printer as well.

So no. it does not work as a drying device without upgrading to buggy firmware on x1c.

Ive experienced numerous issues over the course of firmware development with X/P/A series printers.

1 X1C might not but then another does. It’s not always the same and only becomes a concern when a certain majority of users are affected.

yeah, i’m just curious what bugs he’s experienced.

That’s how I’ve understood it so far - which is why I finally installed the latest firmware yesterday. My AMS2 Pro will be delivered today (not the hub and the power supply unit, of course). It was to be expected that you would be forced to use their new system in some way. Even if you need support and the first thing they tell you is that you MUST install the new firmware before they can help you …

My next printer purchase will definitely be carefully considered beforehand

After Bondtech’s latest announcement and showcase of the INDX filament toolchanging system… I forsee a huge shift with prosumers that have a knack for technology and open source firmware.

The revolutionary development not only simplified toolchangers, it’s bringing the components to consumers at a remarkable price.

  • near 4 sec print temps
  • 12 sec tool head changes
  • contact-less swaps
  • $35 per tool head
  • $250 for the smart toolhead

I’m honestly stunned by this development and cannot wait to test the product with Bondtech. They revolutionized once before when they designed the CHT nozzle. Yet again and not to my suprise, sweden did it again.

I am uploading a lengthy video on my experience with the latest firmware you can watch it on my Youtube channel @sleepingdogvideo2. As of this post hopefully it will be posted in half an hour of so. I also wonder if the AMS 2 pro will allow for oversized spools? The 2 reasons I would want to upgrade is for the drying during printing and able to use slightly oversized spools. To bad that there is no manual button to enable drying like on all third party dryer. It does not seem like that would have been too complicated to add to this unit. My 3 external dryer do not roll the filament easily enough to feed into the back slot.

As my YouTube video talks about how many of you upgraded to the newest firmware and also installed the newest Bambu Studio software. And is that combination working. I wonder if upgrading to the new firmware but staying with the older Bambu studio software would work for the AMS 2 pro. And whether that combination works without all the bugs.

One other thing. I seem to be getting a lot of small glitches I have not gotten before, even after downgrading to my previous firmware. Right now I started a long print. I boosted the speed up to ludicrous mode and the video on the camera frame rate is supper slow. had to say if this is related. I have very high speed in house wifi so that should not be the issue.

is this like “year of the linux desktop”?

It’s “Infrastructure Week” this year.

I am seeing a beta firmware for this now

don’t use the .18 beta, use the .14 beta

.18 is broken
