AMS allocation on X2D

I’m trying to decide on the best AMS arrangement for my printers I currently have:

-X1C with AMS1 and an AMS HT

-A1 with AMS lite

-H2D with AMS2 and an AMS HT

-A brand new bare X2D with no AMS.

My standalone X2D came in today. I’m hoping the X2D will be my main workhorse since the X1C has a bazillion hours on it now. I was thinking about keeping the X1C as a backup and moving its AMS 1 to another printer.

Would it be more worth it to move my AMS2 to the X2D and putting the AMS 1 on my H2D? Or would I be better off just running 2 HTs on my X2D? Or would it be fine to just move the AMS1 and HT to the X2D and leave the H2D alone?

Is anyone using an AMS1 on an X2D? Did you have any problems? I’m mostly interested in using the X2D for Polycarbonate and Nylon with the heated chamber. I do very little multicolor printing and what multicolor printing I do do usually has less than 10 switches. My AMS1 really has not been beaten to death with multi hundred color change prints so I’m sure it has a lot of life left even though the X1C is nearing the end of the road.

I think any way you like should be fine. It’s probably very easy to switch AMS between your H2D and the X2D, should you come to the conclusion that you better like AMS1 and AMS2 the other way round.

At some time, I replaced my 2 AMS1 by AMS2 during one of the sales. I was able to sell each of the used ones at 50€ less than the new AMS2 cost. But that was by no means necessary.

If you plan to use the X2D much more than the H2D, then I would probably give the AMS2 to it because of faster loading and better accessibility in case of filament braking inside the AMS.

Or you just do the least effort assignment now and decide after some time using your printers if you want to rearrange the AMS based on usage.

Thanks, yeah I’m most interested in if the X2D+AMS1 or X2D+HT has any reliability issues compared to the X2D+AMS2 pairing. Since I don’t do much color the faster AMS2 is probably better on the H2D. If It doesn’t cause reliability issues I’ll probably just move the X1’s AMS1 to the X2D.

I would expect that it works exactly the same as on the X1C. You probably shouldn’t combine it with the Filament track switch, but I guess that is not on your agenda :wink:.
