AMS and extruder issue

Hi everyone

I hope someone can help. Spent 6 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue without a fix.

Got the P1S few months ago. Printed a bunch of stuff. No changes in filament and no roll changes. Printed an item last night then after print and cool down, shut the printer off. This morning started it up, for another print. The AMS loaded the filament all the way to the extruder than back, about five times and an error asking to check if extruder is clogged.

Looked into everything, tubing, extruder, etc… no go. I tried to just do filament with external roll. Printed fine. Took same roll put it in AMS, same thing. Pushes filament all the way in and retracts after 20 seconds. 5 times each time and stops with error.

Tried different filaments and same thing. Cleaned everything still no go.

Any help appreciated. Anyone had similar issue?

I am having the same issues. Did you ever get this resolved?

Hello,

I had this same issue. Goes all the way to the extruder, appears to be virtually loaded, but retracts several times and then gives up. I removed the PTFE tube from the extruder- nothing in there at all and replacing this didn’t help. I ended up removing the extruder and disassembling it- I also replaced the filament run out sensor but that’s because I had a secondary issue- I do not think this was related to the blockage.

When I removed and disassembled the extruder- there was a chunk of filament just squished sideways in the gears- this was absolutely blocking it from functioning but the literal only way I found this out and could see it was when I took apart the extruder. I would say give that a go first and see if there is anything stuck inside it or in the gears!

Hi … yes, resolved it by making sure that the device screwed attached in the rear of the case where the filament pushes through is clean, well greased, the spring inside isnt stuck and the slider inside being pushed by the spring is freeling moving. Its what loads the filament giving the filament an extra push when it reaches the extruder. If the spring is stuck or slider isnt freely moving, seems Bamboo didnt put much grease there, it doesnt push the filament enought to load it in the extruder thus, the filament reurns a little after it reaches the extruder.

Best approach is to unscrew that plastic box, careful not to have everything fall apart on you, clean it, grease it and move the slider and spring a bit to make sure its fully seated, sliding and functional before putting it back on again.

Hope this helps and fixes your issue like it did mine.

Thank you

Please read my solution for a fix above, worked for me.

Thank you! For me when this occurred the first time it was a piece stuck in the extruder gears, but I’ve been having this issue lately now and it is definitely the filament buffer this time!

I swapped it out with a new one, minimized angles on the ptfe tubing, completely replaced all ptfe tubing and manually fed the filament through the ptfe tubes through the filament buffer to the extruder, still feeling some resistance right at the juncture going into the printer- but brand new ptfe tubing here.

I ran the filament by hand while the printer was off to make sure there wasn’t anything in there and kept tweaking the angles of the ptfe tubing and have it mostly solved- except sometimes it is still getting stuck right by the buffer (here I know its the buffer that is the issue) or right as it goes into the machine (would this still be the buffer being an issue or potentially the AMS motor not having enough power to push all the way?)- I was thinking of using a small amount of silicone lubricant to grease up the moving plastic parts within the filament buffer and seeing if that helps. I hear some squeaking fro back there as if it might have too much friction to more smoothly- hoping this will help but if not I purchased an AMS motor to try out that will hopefully get here soon.

I will keep you posted on if the lubricant helps! If not- do you have any suggestions for it? I have a fully upgraded P1P to P1S, I replaced the filament buffer and all of the PTFE tubing aside from the internal PTFE tubes within the AMS- which I replaced less than a month ago due to typical wear.

Thank you for your help, the pictures and explanations were very helpful and easy to follow!

Right, the buffer, sorry about the terminology

With mine, the spring was stuck on an angle just a bit. Now since this was a few months ago, if I remember correctly the little internal plastic park that keeps moving with the spring, it looks like a pin, plastic pin attached to the plastic was bent, almost like broken off. It’s cheap plastic, should be aluminum or metal for that much movement or pressure to keeping the filament pushed. Its not much pressure but obviously the plastic pin of the plastic isn’t handling it well.

That said, just take your buffer apart, remember all of the parts that go together, lube them, clean them, air blow if you got to, and then put it back together. It should solve your issue.

Good luck!

No need to apologize at all, Im still learning the terms and the printer itself everytime I have to trouble shoot it! It is doing much better with the lube and cleaning, but still giving me a lot of difficulties with multicolor through the AMS, seeming to still not have enough power to push all the way to the extruder sometimes. The spring is moving without issue, and it loads up perfectly sometimes and other times errors out or takes up to 6 times to finally get to the extruder, I am hoping that it clears up soon or that the new AMS motor coming will help. I only have the one printer and use it CONSTANTLY for work and for starting craft fairs so I am not sure if this use could potentially have worn down that motor? Thank you for all of your help! It is working about 80% of the time right now and I am hoping to get it back up to full working order with the new motor or just some babysitting of a few prints until something else pops out that could be affecting it. thank you again
