AMS and Multi-Device Printing Filament Change

For the longest time, I have had 1 X1C. I recently added some A1 and P1s so I have a small print farm. When I have a project, that was “formatted” for the X1c, and has say 6 colors, when I now want to send it to another printer, if I don’t have those same colors pre-loaded in the printer and I hit sync, the slicer syncs the colors and changes all my parts to attempt to match the colors it has loaded on this new printer. Is there a way NOT to have it change any colors on my plate? I want it to sync, so I know what I have available, but I don’t want it to automatically change the color selections on my build plates. Even when the colors the project was saved with, are not currently on the printer/AMS that I just synced to. Is that possible?

I think you can workaround it by simply ignoring the sync button and use the device tab as your sync button.

Meaning, instead of hitting the sync button just tab to device, select the device in question and then back to prepare, the selections should not have changed but the list of items to select from should have. At least that is how I remember it working for me.

There’s no need to “resync” filaments. When sending to print, the sicelr will suggest colours available closest to ones in the project and on that screen you can choose different filament slots and it’ll be fine.

I understand, my issue is why that “suggestion”. This is not an issue so much when you are working with one printer, but now that I’m producing with several, I don’t know which printer I will be using when I re-print more of that multi color model. If everything is not loaded in that new printer, just like it was on the one I used to create and save the project, that “suggested color change” will change all the colors on all the plates. I have resigned to not using the sync button, and looking at the colors on the device page. I thought that now that they are introducing features for multi device, they might have given you this option. For example, there is a “lock” button to the right of each plate. It would be nice if when you activate it, it prevents changes, manual or automatic via sync, from happening, because you don;t want them. Thanks a million for the feedback.

Thank you for the feedback. This is what I have resigned myself to doing. Unfortunately, when you have 8 colors, it creates many trips back and forth. I’m also trying to separate the plates by color, which I have to do anyway, and on plates with multicolor, using the plate labels to store the colors used on that plate. I rarely paint anything, I program the colors on the body name in Fusion, so that when it comes in, they are easy to assign. Now that they are introducing multi-device features, it would be nice for example, if they used that “lock icon” on the right of each plate to “lockdown” changes, including color changes, until you unlock it. That way, you finish the project, lock the plates, and any sync can happen without affecting the plates until you want it to. Maybe someone will suggest this mod. Thanks again for the feedback.
