Hi all. Using the X1C with latest firmware.
The option to auto switch filament is enabled.
My Bambu PLA basic ran out on slot 3 and I all other slots I had other PLA filaments.
I got a message saying that I have to load slot 3. The auto switch didn’t happen.
I had a similar failure when the filament ran out in slot 1. Slot 2 had the same PLA and same color. The AMS was set to backup, too. When slot 1 ran out, the LED turned red and the printer kept going, using what was in the tubes. When the extruder ran out, the AMS hub motor started, but the first stage did not feed anything. The slot 2 LED stayed solid white. The printer kept on printing with no filament and the AMS hub motor kept running until i stopping the print manually. I have submitted a trouble report, but not heard back yet.
The AMS will switch to another spool with the same filament properties automatically when the current filament runs out. These filament properties include brand, type, color, and nozzle temperature. If the AMS cannot find the same filament, it will display a prompt that the current slot has run out. To enable this feature, please check “AMS filament backup” on the AMS settings page.
Tips:
a. Currently, the RFID information of filaments cannot be read while printing, and the information of non-Bambu filaments can not be edited during printing. Please configure the filament information before printing.
b. This function requires filaments with exactly the same properties. It is recommended that Bambu filament be used as a replacement for Bambu filament and non-Bambu filament be used as a replacement for non-Bambu filament.
That’s what I’m saying, they weren’t exactly the same. One was Bambu Basic and one was Bambu Matte. Both were recognized by the RFID, so unless my AMS made a mistake, they may only care about color and material type.
Definitely surprised me after reading the notes on the AMS page. But with that said, it may be specific to these Bambu Lab filaments. At high speeds, sometimes the Basic and Matte can look very similar. In the part I printed I literally can’t tell the difference. So I can see why Bambu could put an exception in for those two. BTW, in the picture the blend was around the 75-80% complete mark.
I have had the same problem with the new firmware (thanks, 3DTech, for the tip). I reverted back to the 00.00.05.96 firmware and the filament backup worked perfectly.
With the new firmware, the filament backup didn’t work. Same PLA in Slot 1 and 2. When Slot 1 ran out and the extruder was empty, the printer kept going, and the panel showed that the spool holder filament was loaded instead of Slot 2! There was no filament on the spool holder, but it kept “thinking” that there was PLA on it and was trying to use it.
I have submitted a trouble report with videos to document this issue.
Sorry missed your inquiry, Yes I have all 4 options checked, Insertion Update, Update on Start, Update capacity, and AMS Auto Switch. Not sure I’ll keep the startup option because of how long it takes but, I’ll keep it for now.
As for the OP, the color is a definite hurdle. Ditto on what 3DTech mentioned, just configure it. If you want to switch even if the colors are different you’ll want to trick the AMS in to thinking they are the same in the manual configuration.
