AMS Color Bleed?

I am trying to use the AMS to color some numbers that are close together, but when I slice, the filament is bleeding across. I assume this is because the numbers are so close together, but is there a solution other than moving the numbers?

Have a look at the latest Studio Courses for some tips on setting up text.

Or use Arachne and take care of the relation between feature size/distances and nozzle diameter (60%+ when using Arachne, 100%+ without).

I added the text in CAD, not in Bambu Studio. Could you explain more about the 60% when using archanie wall generation? I am getting the same problem with a .2 nozzle

Right.

There’s a difference between adding the text in CAD and adding it in Studio. Especially when it is imported as a single object and then “hand painted” in the slicer as it will try to anchor the colors. You have better color control when using a modifier for coloring the positive text even though it can be a bit cumbersome.

If the text size or distances between them get smaller than a nozzle diameter though, things become interesting though as the slicer considers these unprintable. Using the Arachne wall generator allows the slicer to consider widths lower than the nozzle diameter. From my experience, this actually works really well down to 60% nozzle diameter.

The “bleed” however is a bit different as it considers the gap to be immaterial. I doubt it is smaller than the 0.05mm default minimum gap distance though (which you can lower). So with the knowledge that the numbers are CAD imported features rather than Studio text, I’d recommend using a height range or cube modifier to perform the coloring rather than hand painting (if the number distances are indeed larger than the minimum gap distance in the Quality tab).

I opened it up in CAD and the numbers are roughly .4mm apart.

I am familiar with modifiers but I must be missing something. When I add a modifier and then in object mode tell it to use black PLA, I am not getting colored numbers. I tried a box at first and moved it over a large portion of the model, but only the top layer was turning black. Then I created a tube in CAD and imported that as a modifier to enclose only the text. No black.

Update: Using modifiers works, but I have to erase all painting for the filament choice in the modifiers to take effect. Thank you for getting me where I needed to be.

I am glad it worked and that you were able to use a tube modifier. On an uneven surface, it would have been much more tedious.

Best wishes,
